Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I’d laugh my ass off if the last shot of the movie was Natasha kool ade manning out of the soul gem
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo with Godzilla vs. Kong showing off big numbers I wonder if Disney Studios is meeting up regarding about potentially dropping the PA idea for Black Widow and making it theatrical-only again, if not push it up.
Unless Bob Chapek is planning to lay off those executives and write off billions from the studios, of course, which could massively impair future Marvel projects if he does that.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherI think the risk/reward calculations still favor leaving Black Widow where it is.
Marvel has plenty of Disney+ shows lined up to build interest in the franchise. And there's still some uncertainty about a new wave of COVID cases in the US over the next couple months.
Finally the high cost of Disney+ premiere access will mean that the only people who pay it are the ones who probably wouldn't go to the theatre at all.
On the subject of false advertising, generally no crime has been committed if the claims were sincere when they were made and money either hasn't yet changed hands or unconditional refunds are offered.
The wild card is whether or not the cinemas play along. Cinemark's refusal to screen Raya is likely to carry over to Cruella and Black Widow unless Disney caves, and already other major cinema chains have raised a stink (granted, it's not yet on the scale of when Trolls World Tour got dumped out of theaters nor when HBO Max torched WB's 2021 slate, though WarnerMedia keeps trying to distract with shiny Max sub numbers despite Turner and WB suffering for it). If not, not only do the cinemas suffer, but the people who work at Disney's theatrical division, who have more hands-on experience in film than the employees working at Disney streaming services (and have a larger workforce), could take a beating as well.

My understanding is that WB worked out some kind of deal with the major theatre chains to get them to cooperate. Haven't looked into what it was, but offering the theatres a bigger cut of ticket sales would be my guess.
Disney might be inclined to offer a similar deal. Unless they can convince the theatres that this is a temporary measure to deal with the realities of the pandemic.
So wait.
They're recruiting Loki because he broke time by grabbing the Tesseract....but that's the fault of the Avengers. Why not make them do it?
One Strip! One Strip! The trailer seems to imply the way timelines work is that offshoots happen from time to time, but aren't allowed to remain because the time police cracks down on them. We see a chart of the timeline with a bunch of branches poking out if it, and that plus the narration paints a decent picture about what they do.
Meanwhile, this Loki is a "variant" - essentially the same as an "aberration" in Legends of Tomorrow, a version or being that shouldn't exist as he does - so presumably they would have destroyed him or something if they chose not to recruit him instead.
Because the Avengers who did it aren't variants, presumably. They're the prime versions.

Has Loki ever had dealings with the Time Police in the comics? Or is this a wholesale new plot?

Well, that's interesting. Apparently
, Mobius (Owen Wilson's character)'s Number Two we see in the trailer (the woman who questions him about Loki) is Ravonna. Like, Kang the Conqueror's eventual wife Ravonna.

The Avengers did at least try to go back and repair the initial damage they did. Loki looks like he's done more all on his own (e.g. offshoot timeline(s?) from the original off shoot) which is what he specifically is being tasked with repairing.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Makes a sort of sense. Her association with Kang led to her being associated with time nonsense
The MCU may have Kang originate from the TVA to simplify his origin

Those who watched The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes?
But yeah, he's not like an A-list villain outside of comics.

New Black Widow Trailer
Guess they finally had to admit that it no longer made sense for the "Final" trailer to be the actual final trailer and cut a new one.
The way this is framed probably ups the chances of the "Entire movie is a flashback experienced by a still-existent Natasha within the Soul Gem" being true a couple notches. Certainly not a confirmation though.
