Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

They're not really "changing plans" if all movies post-July are still theater-bound. If Disney really saw that the future was streaming they would exit theatrical right now, dump everything to streaming right now, and impose mass layoffs right now.
Also, it hasn't really "spawned" more streamers given how they were planned pre-pandemic. All the streamers outside of D+/Hulu/ESPN+ and HBO Max have no future whatsoever because they do not have the IP to draw people.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherMaybe by July theatres will be open again in my bloody country, where they have been closed since late October. Otherwise I guess I'll have to use some illegals means to watch the movie until I can buy the DVD, as I'm not ready to make the jump to D+.
As for Feige, I really don't see how that would make him leave. As far as I know, he has not put his quitting in the balance for the release of this movie (unlike what happened for the TV shows), so this should only be a minor setback for him, and I don't think Disney will part from one of their golden geese unless he does something really stupid or finds himself involved into one of those cancel culture scandals.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.The idea that Feige would leave (or be made to leave) over this makes about as much logical sense as the idea that Kathleen Kennedy is perpetually about to be fired and replaced by Dave Filoni.
Which is to say it makes no logical sense, and the only question is what motivates such speculations (regarding to Feige, we all know exactly where the Kennedy rumors come from).
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyMy biggest concern is that the people who want to see BW the most and have D+ but don't want to go to theaters nor pay the $30 will just pirate it. No way you can recoup a $150-200 million movie with that risk, as WB are finding out the hard way.
And it's not like those people are poor. Many of these people think being a YouTuber is a better career opportunity (good luck paying for insurance and rent with that!) than actually working at an entertainment company.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherOkay, just going to be blunt here from a business perspective, Disney was stuck between two shitty options:
- So you release the film this summer. Well, most countries will not be over Covid by the summer (Hell, we just might be over it by next year at best in the First World Countries) and most people are not going to go to the theaters (If they're like me, it's just because waiting for the vaccine to reach them since death is not worth entertainment.) As a result, you have to put it on Disney + or else you aren't getting any money back period from the majority of the world (Again, most people are not going to risk death for a film unless it is literally life changing.) This does definitely reduce the amount of profit you make, but it's at least guaranteed profit and at least you know Disney + will get you some income.
- You put forth another delay. This sounds good, but it is extremely uncertain to say the least. After all, you've already done multiple delays because of this pandemic and there are rumblings of potential issues with the vaccination/treatment of the pandemic (Rightfully or wrongfully.) In addition, these constant delays are butchering any hype that the MCU's phase 4 has and every single delay is just putting yet another nail into the MCU's coffin (After all, where does the MCU go now that Thanos and the OG crew are dead/scattered? This has to be answered and the longer it takes, the less of a shit people are going to give.) In addition, you still gotta pay for advertising and such so the amount of money continues to rise.
Do Feige and Disney really want to put BW on Disney+? Probably not. At this point, with the way this year is going and how last year went though, you take the opportunity you can get at this point. You accept the most likely loss on BW (It was most likely a loss since delay number 2) and you just move on. While it's shit, it's Disney so they can recover more easily from a shit year or two.
Kevin Feige isn't going to leave because Feige likely sat down and had the conversation with Disney where this was explained to him. He is an adult and while he is probably not happy about this, I would imagine that this isn't a "Fuck you lot, peace!" situation. That would be if Disney did that immediately without talking to him. Let's chill on assuming the worst of the situation. To be honest, I just wish Disney didn't charge 30 fucking dollars for it. Do they think I go to luxury theaters? I usually spend 10-20 dollars at most when I went to the theaters. I'd be perfectly willing to pay 10-20 dollars per viewing instead. Hell, just have a rent and/or purchase option there and they'd probably be doing better financially.
Start of match* I did not come here to be Queen of the Ashes. Five minutes later* I AM FIRE I AM DEATHFrom what I've seen on her TV Tropes profile, she's considered to be a bottom of the barrel hero in terms of importance. Which is going to be super ironic in a little while.
The legend has returned. The fun thing with the constant delays the movies are suffering is that we may end up with the MCU back in sync with the real world. With Endgame taking place in 2023 if I'm correct, we only need a couple of years to have phase Four movies being released at their in-universe years.
(yeah, well, trying to find a silver lining there)
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.A batch of concept art
from Doctor Strange 2 and some upcoming TV shows has leaked, including the first look at the outfits for Wong, Mordo, Miss America, Echo and Clea.

I feel like there’s a vocal minority that thinks he’s going to leave over Black Widow due to being worrywarts.
The legend has returned.
