Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Getting who oversaw the most lucrative film franchise in human history this side of Star Wars to leave over this would be a monumentally stupid decision.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."
They wouldn't have taken the D+ route for BW if they believed that. Either Chapek is planning to impose the same cost-cutting measures he's imposed on the parks for years or he's delusionally thinking D+ will supplant theatrical as a greater cash-flow machine, something the newspaper industry learned the hard way that it wasn't the case when they went all in on digital.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherI wonder what they're gonna do about that "meet Scarlett Johannson at the film's premiere" contest from a couple years back.
Like creepy stories? Check out my book!![]()
Considering some of the news, like Warner giving Cinemark a 45-day exclusivity window for cinema only releases (aka no more same day HBO Max film releases) starting next year and the wide variety of cities and local municipalities desperate to turn back the clock to pre-COVID era (Party's over assholes, get back into the office!), I can't see that being the takeaway.
I imagine it will be like the Nintendo Power contest to win a cameo in The Mask 2.
Yeah.

Quoted for emphasis.
The only way I see people losing jobs over this is if the film fails to make money and they can't pay people, which admittedly was probably going to happen no matter what they did. Either way, Feige would not be one of those people.
In any case, I am definitely watching Black Widow in theaters. I haven't the money for another streaming service and the only reason I have HBO Max was because it came free with a new AT&T plan.
I just have to hope my local theaters will be open and properly sanitized by July.

Whether I pick premiere or not is going to depend on if I can get a watch party going.
Raya was no problem for me because I have a big family who wanted to watch together and we all pitched in, but that same family isn't likely to want to watch Black Widow.

Even if there wasn't an epidemic going on and it was still released in theaters, I'm probably not going to watch Black Widow unless it gets particularly good word-of-mouth anyway. A mix of Scarlett Johannson's bizarre antics, her character's fate in Endgame, the film coming too-little-too-late and the genre/approach not really seeming to offer anything particularly interesting (released images don't have me believing it's going to be a cinematographic/visual feast), means it's looking like it'll sit in the So Okay, It's Average zone of MCU quality.
As much as I loved her in the The Winter Soldier and Civil War, she's dead. Similar characters like Sam and Bucky are full of potential for more stories to be told, but with her it's mostly about filling gaps and being a launching point for what's essentially a Post-Script Season. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but diminishing returns. Outside of its plot about gaslighting Captain Marvel was also incredibly average and failed to make the most of its potential, so Black Widow will have to work hard to sell me on doing more with its concept than that one did.

... aren't all those things things that would be unrelated to the actual quality of the film itself?
Two of them are. The last one is definitely my concern that the movie itself will not be anything special until I'm told otherwise, which are exacerbated by the former. And I do think an Interquel about Developing Doomed Characters is somewhat quality-related in a meta sense.
Unless it's framed as an Author's Saving Throw to help further contextualize her decision to sacrifice herself, although I do think it already made sense from a narrative standpoint and that part of it wasn't really my issue in the first place.

Why are we discussing Fiege leaving. He's more or less the reason the mcu functions and didn't become a clusterfuck. Getting rid of him for something like this is a really stupid idea.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Well, I think they were going to have to give in sooner or later. It was keep stalling or make it dual release.
Not sure how I'm going to watch it, even if I do get a vaccine in time.
I suppose we'll see.
One Strip! One Strip!Honestly I think the poor vaccinations in Latin America and Europe factored into this more than anything else.

x6 Feige has apparently said that he would rather the movies not be simultaneously released on D+, which somehow means either he'd quit in protest after this or he'd be fired. Also that there would be "catastrophic layoffs" at Marvel Studios for those same reasons.

Feige could leave on his own terms.
