Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm pretty sure he has a sister in the comics who has been confirmed as appearing in the show.
EDIT: Looking it up on the Marvel wikia
, it looks like Sam has two nephews, one of whom was the Hulk's sidekick and the other is the son of his sister.

The Snap was everyone getting dusted. The Blip was them coming back, seemingly just "blipping" over five years and carefully downplaying the fact that they were all dead.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.I kinda like it in the sense of 'oh god some journalist coined the term and everybody picked up on it and we're like a year away from someone in universe -gate ing blip in dumb ways' sort of way
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI thought this one (rightly removed) Reality Is Unrealistic or Reality Ensues example on Wandavision made a good point.
It does (or did initially) sound stupid to call an apocalyptic event "The Blip".
However, we live in a world where people call Coronavirus "The Rona" and other Black Comedy names.
Which also makes me think of how there's a whole bunch of comical names for syphilis and other venereal diseases (i.e. The Pox, The Clap, etc.)
I don't know whether this kind of thought went into whichever writer proposed calling it The Blip, but it actually is quite realistic to how people do think up facetious names as a coping mechanism.
During the five years where half of the world's population was dead, I believe the survivors called it the Decimation, which seems appropriate; "The Snap" is too cute a name for something so horrific. But the when the victims came back, "Decimation" stopped being an accurate term, so they needed a new name for it and I guess the people who were Blipped started calling it "The Blip" (because that's what it felt like to them) before any better name could catch on.
Of course out of universe the reason the term exists is because Spider-Man: Far From Home derives a large percentage of its humour from people coming up with lame names for things. See also: "Peter Tingle", "Night Monkey".
Only in the very strict dictionary definition. Most people who say decimate in real life just use it as a general term for mass destruction. When someone says a hurricane or earthquake decimated a city, they aren't literally saying it destroyed 1/10th of the area.

Prettiest Meta Knight Gijinka, ngl
x3 ...Man, at first I thought it was another word, that is completely opposite of Thanos' goal...
I mean, he does have a biological son in the comics...

Falcon is an Xbox man. Interesting that the ad mentions his nephews (one of whom was the Hulk's Kid Sidekick in the comics for a while). I wonder if they'll be appearing in the TV show.
