Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

These are the same kind of people who popped a blood vessel over women-only screenings of Wonder Woman or threw a fit over She-Ra's design in her reboot series.
Their complaints are pretty much bullshit and rooted entirely in misogyny.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI should get to watching the rest of She-Ra. Recently I buckled down and watched some episodes and it's pretty good. Don't think I'll like it as much as Hilda but I can definitely respect what it's trying to do, particularly with its representation. I'll get back to y'all on that later in the show's actual thread.
Self-serious autistic metalhead who goes by any pronouns. (avvie template source)Indeed but I keep hearing that she's flinging insults or something.
Huh I think that was already disapproved here.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."...Yes, it is exactly as ridiculously stupid as it sounds.

I'm pretty sure it's a mixture of click baiting, giving closet misogynists some made-up BS so they can spread their misogyny under the guise of protecting the Marvel brand, creating more controversy to further divide people and galvanize those that would have given it a chance, self-centered rants for the sake of indulgence and trolling.

Oh for fucks sake its a movie starring a female hero with POC characters I believe, of course she'd want to hear from a larger variety of people.
If I was making an entertainment product I'd like to hear from more than one tyoe if person's opinion, especially if my thing was starring a female &/or POC character.
...... Wait actually I am writing some stories starring such characters.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Nah, the hatred campaign is predating the part with the diverse guests for the press screenings. They claimed that she hated men beforehand.
I also think that this time it runs deeper. Brie Larsson isn't just an actress who got cast for a leading role, she is also involved in the help of rape survivor and very outspoken regarding sexual harassment and feminist issues in general.
@Midnight: Just keep in mind a lot of the new She-Ra fans seem to be former Voltron shippers, so don't expect too much civility from those corners.

This. It's the same kind of retroactive-justification revisionism that bigots always use.
- Bigots: This movie starring a woman should burn in a fire! Women shouldn't be allowed to star in movies! Especially ugly women like the lead actress! Yeah, I went there!
- Lead Actress: I don't like peanuts.
- Bigots: The lead actress should eat shit and die!
- Audience: Yo, maybe you want to cool it?
- Bigots: Hey, don't look at me. I'm very invested in peanuts. Did you hear that shit she said about peanuts? She started it; I'm just defending myself. I have a right to defend peanuts, y'know.
"I wouldn't care except x person on the cast and crew said y" is basically a revisionist version of "I'm not x-ist BUUUUUUT...."

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.As I have said elsewhere, I have the slight hope that if Captain Marvel succeeds, it will expose this movement as exactly what it is, but most likely, I am too optimistic.
The upside: If all those "bwaaaaah, I won't want this" whiners actually keep to their word, it will make the viewing experience much nicer.
It’s all clickbait, and the problem it’s so pervasive that any legitimate complaints get drowned in it. So everyone whines about Wonder Woman to use an example, it ends up being fine and they slowly get walked back while jumping on the next thing, and if that legitimately fails, we hear “I told you so!” So any legitimate complaints get lost in a sea of endless whining.
Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, and Ghostbusters 2016 are not the same things. At all. And until people start pointing that out, all the complaints will be shoved aside as textbook misogyny.
It's more than just clickbait. It is spreading hatred, not just towards this movie, but towards women in general.
Initial Captain Marvel reviews are here and positive. So naturally everyone is calling shill ala Ghostbusters.
Well, not as if Ghostbuster wasn't a bad movie.
Not terrible, for sure, just really boring and not particularly funny, which for an Action-Comedy is a pretty severe flaw.
But that's the wrong attitude! Let us forget about the past and focus on what the future will bring! This movie better have Nirvana in it!
Honestly, I don't blame anyone for not liking any movie. I just hate it when they blame the studio going "woke" for it, because that is absolute nonsense.
Btw, this:
Really made me laugh. Partly because it feels like a middle-finger to the people who are now claiming that Captain Marvel will be outshined by a cat. It's like they are saying "so what? We embrace this!

Ghostbusters 2016 was a mediocre film that deserved to be released to fairly middling sales figures, be deemed "okay" by the people who saw it, and then be largely forgotten by history.
There is absolutely no reason for it to have blown up into a gigantic controversial pop-culture event in history the way it did. Except, y'know. Misogyny. But that also means that Ghostbusters 2016 has secured a place in internet history.
As a result, I give it ten years or so and it'll probably wind up immortalized as an "I like this film: FIGHT ME" cult classic among teens and young adults who've only heard the stories of the movie that made the internet go completely frothing insane.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I've started to see some YouTube videos — one showed up on my feed, I clicked it, watched 10 seconds, then disliked and turned it off — complaining about people complaining about the film being review-bombed. "We have a right to our opinions." Yeah, sure. Just as we have a right to shit on them. Go away, you neckbearded, alpha-male, woman-hating trolls.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Hate to break it to you, but the You Tube feed will most likely now bombard you with this stuff.
I know. But YT does have an option to ignore recommended videos and tell it to stop showing you that sort of content, or that channel. I've used it to, among other things, block Fox News.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The recommendations algorithm is annoying more than helpful but blocking by channel kind of works, though I guess there are always more.
I knew this movie was being set in the 90's, but I didn't think it was going to be a full on 90's sci-fi throwback genre wise! Extra excited now.
And then I remember that I still have to wait two and a half weeks. Sigh...
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Well I'm glad to know the '90s throwback apparently permeates the entirety of the movie and isn't just limited to the setting. I'm also glad to hear the movie is apparently much stranger and more unique than the initial trailers suggested, where it seemed to be solid but otherwise fairly conventional.
Although this has been said enough about each Marvel movie, that expecting to be surprised by moments of surprise humor at this point is the more surprising thing.

ENJOY!
Ok, who let Light Yagami in here? The person who wrote that must have been a huge fan of Angel.
Okay what the fuck did Brie do to warrant people saying she’s ruining Marvel?
Cause I just got recommended a video (not gonna watch it) titled that she’s gonna cost them a hundred million dollars & the thumbnail has “The End of Marvel” written on it.
What are people complaining about exactly?
