[up][up]Bleach and Naruto Shippuden are still airing, but Bleach airs at midnight so there would definitely be more teens and adults watching it than kids, and Disney XD doesn't seem to bother advertising Naruto Shippuden at all.

Weren't magical girlfriend movies and TV shows popular in the 1960s? Even Wonder Woman is returning to TV, so who knows?

Actually, I think its excutives that are afraid of airing shows aimed at girls. I had been having a suspicion for a while and I even found an article that confirmed what this suspicion, executives think girls dont like animation as much as boys and prefer to watch Live Action stuff like Hannah Montana and I Carly. Not that this is true...or false.

I know I shouldnt care about the genre being popular in the states or not, but its infuriating how dismissive USA is. The Pretty Cure Dub couldnt air there, it skipped it entirely. It was succesful in the UK, though.

[up] Foreign stuff just... isn't that popular here. For example, Hollywood often remakes foreign horror movies, even if they're still pretty much the same, instead of dubbing the originals.

[up]I kinda imagine that's might be the case as well over there. I kinda remember that Power rangers are rearrangements and frame recycles of older sentai shows.

Animation Age Ghetto has hit America really freaking hard the last ten years, which is why anime isn't doing so well(in terms of anyone airing it on television, we still love it, they just won't air it for us). Awareness of anime has actually increased a lot, I don't know how many books I've read recently that have characters liking anime explicitly. The media companies are just jackass idiots who are afraid to take a risk, and think all viewers are idiots. If we had a cable anime channel that would be so freaking pro...that's my dream. One channel. All Anime. All the time. (without having to pay extra)

I have the feeling it's going to start creeping back in though. Recently, with Avatar The Last Airbenders popularity action-cartoons have started to come back in, where they had been all but wiped out before. Anime can't be far behind.

One of the good things about Nicktoons is that it made the first step towards making anime mainstream again, by airing Dragon Ball Z Kai. The Show is a HUGE success for Nicktoons!

And even the Magical Girl genre gets more airtime on Nick with Winx Club. Overall, I like Nick better than Disney for this.

Sadly, Disney XD and Naruto Shippuden didnt get as much success together. Even though I dont like Naruto or Disney XD I really wanted the show to be succesful so that more anime could be aired.

[up]Like I said earlier, they don't seem to bother advertising it. They probably think that they could save money by not advertising it because anime fans will find out that they are airing it anyways.

Dragon Ball Z Kai or Naruto Shippuden? If its the former, I think its actually quite well advertised. If you mean Naruto Shippuden, its DEFINITELY getting screwed by the Network and I dont use that term lightly. Horrible Timeslot, unpredictable preemptions, you name it!

The deletion of the Naruto reruns has allowed Disney more airtime on their (half a dozen?) cable channels to show additional repeats of their own quality programming that is more suited to the tastes of American pressure groups.

From the looks of it, Nicktoons is looking to be general audience anime's best bet for getting American airtime.

That's pretty much it for right now, but since it's doing so well, maybe we'll see Nick pick up more anime for their other channels. I can see something like the Persona 4 anime airing on Teen Nick, for example.

@ Scherzo 09,

I believe The Disappearance Of Haruhi Suzumiya was the last anime film to be shown in limited theater release in America.

@ That Human,

Of course Charmed counts. It's just Josei instead of Shoujo.

Also, the OP clearly was talking about the Magical Girl Genre, and wondered why America didn't start creating their own like Europe has.

[up][up] Then again, the old executives that pushed CN Real were fired, and the new people in power should probably listen and understand putting more air time for Anime.

Maybe make a new bock in place where CN real used to be.

And they are airing the rather Animesque Thunder Cats 2011, so....

[up]Technically Thunder Cats 2011 is anime since it is animated by Studio 4°C, a Japanese studio.

[up][up]No I think Evangelion 2.0 was the most recent. It was shown in a few theaters earlier this year.

Well I meant their branding would be the most receptive for that kind of show.
