XD To be honest, the lack of characters from the original is why I want to watch it. Aside from Lulu and CC, I didn't really care for most of the cast.
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!Code Geass's worldbuilding needs a shot in the arm like this. War In The Pocket proved you can tell a very engaging Mecha story without using Newtype magic or fate of the world plots.
Yeah, and I know this is sacrilegious to most Geass fans, but I hope they're a bit more down to earth too.

These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.
Well there's an attempt at worldbuilding which intrigued me when I first saw the show, but it pales in comparison to say UC Gundam's. But a different tone could be to its advantage; though I doubt that'd be as down to earth as any of the Gundam side stories.
I'll miss all the Xanatos-ing and Thanatos-ing.
...a little brother should belong to his older sister, right? - Orimura ChifuyuMy feelings are sort of torn on this - on one hand, I found one of the big weaknesses of the main series was that it implied this great big wider world and explored so little of it outside the main characters, and it'd be nice to see some different characters and perspectives get explored.
But on the other hand, I was always more engaged with the main characters and how they related to one another than the battle stuff. I only care for fight-scenes when I care about the characters involved.

Well when I first saw it, I was really engaged up until R2. I know thats the popular criticism to say but it really pulled me out of the action and became too convoluted. In retrospect though, after seeing a lot of UC Gundam, its all pretty friggin' silly.
Nevertheless, I still want to see what they do with more of a military grunt perspective. Plus it shines a light on Euro Universe, which kinda got the shaft in the original series.

These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.I actually didn't mind R2's ridiculousness the first time I watched it. The only thing about the series that ever bugged me is how Euphemia's plot arc was resolved. I hated what a stupid contrivance that was. Just because Lelouch just happens to use a bad hypothetical example, Euphemia tries to kill all Elevens and then has to be put down.
But that wasn't even in R2. R2 had a few iffy moments, but they work if you're caught up emotionally in them enough.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.
The whole reset button at the beginning, them faffing about in China, intermixed with more HS Slice of life BS (and I know thats part of the shows charm to a lot of people, but not to me), and then a finale where everyone's either a chessmaster or a complete tool. I dunno, Euphinator aside, it all came off as much more forced the second time around. But like I said in retrospect it was all very silly to begin with.
Maybe I won't like it as much in retrospect. I don't think I'll mind the high school hijinks too much though.
Oh, god, though, I just got to the episode in R1 I was talking about earlier on my rewatch, and I just... can't even bring myself to watch it, because I know how hard it'll be to sit through the last part without getting ticked off.
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.I liked R2. Barring a few nitpicks about the ending of course, but still.
And even if the Geass is somehow absent from "Code Geass", they'll still find a way to ham it up.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialI see Gato level ham making it in but I dont think we will see Zero level make it in.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!XD To be honest, the lack of characters from the original is why I want to watch it. Aside from Lulu and CC, I didn't really care for most of the cast.
I liked most of the cast but I had issues with them. Yeah, Lelouch and CC were the best characters but even they had their problems by R2. I liked Suzaku and Kallen but they were constantly going through phases of angst, I liked Euphemia but thing's obviously didn't end well for her, I liked Jeremiah, Kaguya, and Milly but they were a bit too...out there sometimes, I liked Schniezel before he turned into a cardboard villain towards the end, and I liked Nunally but she needed better development (though to be fair, Rolo needed that even more but I didn't like him much at all.)
All that said, I don't think this spin-off is a very good idea. I highly doubt Code Geass can ever recover it's dignity after R2, especially since the initial story is over with.

Well if tells a good story that stands up on its own merits, I'd be behind it. Its good step if Sunrise wants to make the Code Geass universe into a world to base stories in, like UC Gundam. The OYW side stories are a great way to get people into UC Gundam, so I could see this as the same for Geass.
...Maybe want?
I mean, no CC or LL pretty much makes it not Code Geass any longer. But it could be done well. It just feels like Bandai's trying to ride the gravy train to ignoble death here.
Don't see what all the hate at R2 is all about. Sure, it wasn't exactly perfect, but it was still a hell of a season with more C Mo As than a crowd of a million geased Elevens can shake a stick at.

When you remember that we are all mad, all questions disappear and life stands explained.
Ehh, my tastes probably changed while watching it so the goofy stuff became less appealing, but off the top of my head; The horrendous Reset Button which more or less erased erased the plot developments of most of the first season; tons of more filler, whether it being faffing about Tokyo, China, or Ashford Academy, and again this is more of my taste, but all the slice of life BS was just so in-congruent with the whole fight for Japanese liberty; Suzaku being stripped of most of his characterization and reduced to an imperial tool until almost the very end; and in general lots of characters carrying idiot balls, especially when it was used to move the plot forward.

^ Well, the title itself is Code Geass Gaiden Bōkoku no Akito, so yes, it is a side story.
I guess...I'll probably watch it? It seems like a lot of people don't want to because the old characters won't feature much, but I don't think I'll mind as long as the story is well written. And I've always been a little disappointed that we didn't get to see much of the universe outside of Japan.
