Fourthing Motion. Everyone thinks old men are dirty.

agreed. The dirty old man is old-old-old and not Japanese exclusive.

Dirty Old Man is now properly perving on women of ALL cultures.

Emotionless Girl:

Japanese examples: 94
Non-Japanese examples: 47
Description indicates no Japanese origin or specificity, leading me to assume that this is a trope that is used by all cultures, and just happens to be popular in Japan.

Since Raso, Shimaspawn, and Osmium have already expressed a vote for its removal, I will go ahead and take it off without an official Motion. If anyone disagrees with this action, it can be moved back into Uncertain later if necessary.

Emotionless Girl has been removed from the index, but doesn't seem too broken up about it.

Up next is Fangirl, with the following stats:

Japanese or Japan-inspired examples: 40
Non-Japanese examples: 22
Description indicative that this is a phenomenon that happens in all cultures.

Motion to Remove Fangirl (Osmium's yes vote already counted)

Voting to remove Fangirl.

Also, Pettanko is a fanspeak term. Not a Stock Character. It's not a trope.

Spaceship Girl is a stock Sci-Fi character. Not a Stock Japanese Character. Sequential Artist isn't nationality specific. I know, I helped write it.

I can't help but think that Dark Skinned Red Head is suppose to be more than what it says on the tin... Why does it say blue hair examples, as well as a personality type required (all the red heads listed there that I know of in anime follow it, with dark-skinned dark colored blue hair invert it, With Dark Skinned Blonde going the ditzy tropical angle.)

actually having dark skin in anime is a specific type of trope, while it's not always in other mediums.

Ah, good catch on Pettanko, I've gone ahead and removed it.

Any other votes for Fangirl before we move on?

Sorry I haven't updated this thread in a few days, I've not had much time to spend online recently.

Since no one objected to the motion for Fangirl, I've gone ahead and removed it.

The last one from the previous page was Gender Bender, which we'll go ahead and review before getting to the two that Tropers/Shimaspawn proposed.

Gender Bender -

Japanese examples: 60
Non-Japanese examples: 100+
Description does not reflect Japanese origin or specificity.

Motion to Remove Gender Bender. (Raso and Osmium's votes already counted.)

To the best of my memory Shakespeare never did an actual Gender Bender, just disguises/crossdressing. But yeah, it's certainly not a "Japanese trope" in any way.

Voting to remove it.

Shakespeare never did a true Gender Bender: Greek Mythology did, most notably Tiresias:

On Mount Cyllene in the Peloponnese, as Tiresias came upon a pair of copulating snakes, he hit the pair a smart blow with his stick. Hera was not pleased, and she punished Tiresias by transforming him into a woman. As a woman, Tiresias became a priestess of Hera, married and had children, including Manto, who also possessed the gift of prophecy. According to some versions of the tale, Lady Tiresias was a prostitute of great renown. After seven years as a woman, Tiresias again found mating snakes; depending on the myth, either she made sure to leave the snakes alone this time, or, according to Hyginus, trampled on them. As a result, Tiresias was released from his sentence and permitted to regain his masculinity. This ancient story is recorded in lost lines of Hesiod.

In a separate episode, Tiresias was drawn into an argument between Hera and her husband Zeus on the theme of who has more pleasure in sex, as he had experienced both conditions: Was it the man, as Hera held firm; or, as Zeus claimed, the woman? Tiresias replied, "Of ten parts a man enjoys one only." Hera instantly struck him blind for his impiety. Zeus could do nothing to stop her, but he did give Tiresias the gift of foresight and a lifespan of seven lives.

Close enough. Apparently it's been a while and stories have started to blur. In any case, it's one of The Oldest Ones in the Book. Not Japan specific.

Gender Bender is no more.

The next one suggested was Spaceship Girl, with the following stats:

Japanese examples: 24
Non-Japanese examples: 54
No evidence of Japanese origin or exclusivity in the description.

That said, Motion to Remove Spaceship Girl (Shima's vote already counted).

Man we need a Gender Bender Antics for those Gender Bender Animes that always do the same stuff for comedy. The trope itself isnt always played for comedy but in Anime it almost always is. Got to think on how to YKTTW that....

Anyway Spaceship Girl can go I think. (Why are we skipping around?)

Lets see next on the Harem Nanny.... pretty much Harem Genre specific with one non-anime example that doesnt quite fit the trope going to say keep.

Head Pet... Remove (I could see keeping if its a talking headpet or extremely expressive almost humanlike head pet but not just a head pet.)

Huge Schoolgirl: this one is very murky I mean they are just treated as completely different compared to the rest of the world where she is just kinda tall. Breaking 170 is freaken a big deal in Japan she towers over everyone in the class. As well as completely different personality types associated with the trope.

Spaceship Girl has been removed, since no one objected.

(Why are we skipping around?)

Over the last several pages, I've been trying to go in the order that tropes are brought up in the thread so that we can go ahead and capture the vote of the person who mentioned it. Shima's got one more then we'll move on to your post.

Next up is Sequential Artist:

Japanese examples: 14
Non-Japanese examples: 19
The description is inclusive of Manga, Comic Book, and Newspaper Comic artists. Additionally Shimaspawn mentioned that the YKTTW was not written to be Japanese specific.

The choice seems clear here, Motion to Remove Sequential Artist. (Shima's vote already counted.)

Being my YKTTW go ahead and remove I guess... Leaves it on one index.... Got nowhere else to put it, this is like the only index I could put the thing... Sigh, my tropes always fail.

I actually wanted to make it just about Mangaka and put Comic Artist in a separate sister trope due to all the differences and terminology. That got vetoed.

It won't be indexless, as I added it to Occupation Tropes (which is a sub-index of Stock Characters) and just added it to Art Tropes, so it will still have a home.

I don't know why you consider the trope to have "failed", as it is a great trope to have. It's just going on a more appropriate index.

Oh its pretty much failed, only 9 inbounds, freaken hate the name (nobody could come up with anything better) and I could never find an index for it >< the worst performing trope I have done I think (Paper Talisman or Waterfall Shower might be worse, oh yeah Waterfall Shower is worse....)

Anyway next one?

Sequential Artist has been removed.

Up next is Harem Nanny, which I believe Madrugada questioned whether the trope is needed since it seems to have close ties to Team Mom. I'm not sure if those concerns were addressed sufficiently, but as it stands right now Harem Nanny is very Japanese specific in examples, and directly relates to the Harem Genre which is a thing that is pretty unique to Japanese media.

With that said, barring someone feeling the need to take Harem Nanny to TRS, I'm making a Motion to Move Harem Nanny to the Keep List.
