I still think some way to tag TRS threads would help. Rename, Definition, Clean Up, Misuse, No Wiks, could all be tags which would help people at least sort through and find threads that are easy to finish fast.

We may do that. Right now the simplest thing to do is cap the number of open threads in TRS and IP. I'm going to pluck the number 1000 out of the air and set the cap there.

Edited to add: That's implemented. Standby for the howling.

The auto-message says "There are 1445 threads open in this Repair Shop or Image Pickin' forum. The limit is 1000. We won't be talking new items here until some threads are closed." However, the stale shop report says there are 1986 left. Which one's the glitch?

Neither. The stale report sums the two forums TRS and IP. The message on creation counts the open items in the target forum only.

Time for another archive dive. Last time I locked about eight pages worth of threads and did seven full page renames all on my own. (The crowners had stabilized, the move just wasn't done.)

There are 1437 threads open in this Repair Shop or Image Pickin' forum. The limit is 1000. We won't be talking new items here until some threads are closed.

Ouch. (I was just going to open a quick one too.)

[up][up] Maybe we should bump and lock the say half last page of image picking and repair shop.... then if anyone wants to input on a certain situation use the mod alert thing to unlock?

This whole rush to get things done so we can open up new threads is going to get alot of people just doing things for the hell of it without even a crowner or such.

Eddie, is there any way you can make something that lets people see which TRS threads they opened?

Or at least the ones that are currently opened? I watched most of them, but a lot of them are locked ones.

[up][up] That is a good idea because man sometimes I forget which ones I was involved in / opened up.

Ooh, I thought of something. What if we kicked all the "I think this needs a split" stuff over to Trope Talk? If we find a broken trope, and the problem is that it's several tropes run together, we start the YKTTW and move the thread to Trope Talk to coordinate it.

[up] Turning Trope Talk into TRS part II is not going to help things. It's just going to make things more of a mess.

If it's not already done, there needs to be a headline about the thread cap. Also, I don't support arbitrarily closing any threads...we just need to get on the stick and get them done.

Oh, I'm not going to arbitrarily close threads. Just the ones where the last post is "Someone lock this" but they never bothered to holler. There's a lot of those.

Can anyone call for a lock if a thread is done?

Yes. You make a post in the thread and then just hit the yellow triangle button on top of the post to holler for a mod. Don't do it prematurely though. That's frowned upon.

If the thread is long stalled and stale, you don't have to make a post. Just hit the holler button on the last existing post and ask for a lock as "stale, stalled" or something like that.

Seconding the notion that any sort of 'overflow' thread defeats the purpose of having a cap.

I've noticed a few where the heart of the issue is simply asking for Natter cleanup. I wonder if people post TRS threads for that because the thread about natter clean-up is in Special Efforts.

Maybe it would be helpful to put a post in TRS directing people to the appropriate thread rather than starting a new TRS thread.

Yeah, those ones I've just been cleaning myself and locking rather than necroing them. I'm trying to take care of the easy ones first.

If it really is just a Natter clean-up or example scrub-down or wick cleaning that's needed, those can be moved to Special efforts. They aren't trope repair. They're just a page that's in need of a dose of concentrated clean-up.

Remember when a lot of those threads were made, we didn't have the special Efforts section yet.

It wasn't an overflow, it was more that when it gets to "splitting", most of what goes on is just monitoring YKTT Ws instead of any kind of actual repair work. A number of tropes get put in TRS with "I think we should split this" as a reason. Is that really a repair issue?

Not in the strictest sense of "repair", but then in the strictest sense of "repair", neither is "merge?" or "Bounce back to YKTTW", or "Cut?"

That's very much a repair issue. That's doing a large scale repair on a page. Trope Talk doesn't alert anyone that something is going on with the page. It doesn't let them know that you're going to do a massive change to it. That's a TRS issue.
