There wasn't supposed to be a delay - that's a bug that is now fixed. If a thread gets locked too early, just Holler about it. Easy enough to move it back.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It would probably be easier to do it once a day, like have the widget run every day at 3 AM or something.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Thread locks don't happen often enough that it imposes a huge processing burden on the system. Anyway, let Eddie sweat the technical stuff. Locked means it's done. If you don't see a TRS or IP thread around any more, go to the Morgue and see if it was carted off on a slab. Simple enough.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"My only objection to an insta-poof is that sometimes I'll lock an IP thread without putting a caption up, but leave a note that if someone wants to add one to do so...however, I posted a potential change to IP policy regarding that in the thread in there; comments would be helpful.

Toss my hat in with the "delay before poof" crowd. I've seen one or two cases where I've wanted to drop a comment on a thread but discovered it got locked before I could check back on the forums, and I've also seen a few cases where I want to say "hey, wait a minute!" because I personally thought the lock was premature. (Now, in either case I didn't care enough to PM the mod and give my $.02 about it, but that's a separate issue.)
Also, when I see a locked thread in general, my first reaction is to check the thread to see how it concluded. After that I don't care about it anymore, but when a thread just goes *poof* and vanishes with no explanation (especially if it's one you started) that creates confusion. We don't want to set a precedent for topics about "hey, why did X topic disappear?"
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Yeah, especially when most topics end with a note from the mods saying things like "Please use other thread" or "Locked because of X Decision". I think a day is enough time for them to hang around to just make sure that there aren't any loose ends.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickWell the whole lockdown thing so maybe people will work on old threads is not working >< people are just making threads other places and/or things are just getting passed over that should be issues there.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Did something get tweaked with the locked thread archiver? I just closed a thread in IP, but it didn't give me the style questions, and the thread wasn't in the list when I checked.
EDIT: Yep, the thread was immediately kicked to the Morgue, but threads that were locked between the first big kick to the Morgue and now are still in IP...do those need to be unlocked and then re-locked to kick them over, or is another sweep gonna be done?

Well, there has to be a certain amount of bugs in the code. Otherwise, the stars will align and an Old One will wake up and go on a rampage.
Fight smart, not fair.

It's enough time for there to be objections and for things to be unlocked if someone just hit the wrong button.
