Aww, did I hurt your widdle fee-fees?- The Doors - The Doors
- The Glitch Mob - Drink the Sea
- Sadistik - The Balancing Act
- DJ Shadow - Endtroducing.....
- Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Ahh, at last a 'best of' list in which I can leave Dream Theater out (their debut album is easily their worst due to weak vocals, production that is poor even by 80s standards and songwriting that generally focuses on sounding as much like a more widdly Rush as possible instead of actual songwriting). In fact, pretty much every pre-2000s band I like has a debut album that their later work eclipses by miles, so I'm going to stick with more recent bands:
- Circus Maximus - The First Chapter
- Fightstar - Grand Unification
- Koi - In Tomorrow Hid Yesterday
- Masterplan - Masterplan
And an exception to the rule, since it's a 90s extreme metal classic:
- Suffocation - Effigy Of The Forgotten
Big & Rich, Horse of a Different Color. If you hated "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)" and/or hate country in general, give it a listen. It's kinda like Queen, the Everly Brothers, Barenaked Ladies and Kid Rock's good side all thrown in a blender and turned up to 12.
Also, an obscure band called The Tractors put out a killer debut in 1994. "Baby Likes to Rock It" is a major Ear Worm and all the other songs are gritty and fun jams. Loads and loads of guest musicians.
Tom Waits - Closing Time
The Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium
The Sisters of Mercy - First And Last And Always
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F#A#(Infinity)
Riverside - Out Of Myself
