Yippee.

So I guess that she ate the baby, hence no direct follow-up to the last one..?

Not many franchises have two prequels.

[up][up]Well you never know, they did do a sequel thing at the end of the 2nd one so many we'll have a follow up with this one.

If they did a direct sequel, it would have to discontinue the "found footage" aspect and become a more traditional movie. Something like Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare.

Why are these movies popular? I saw about 30 mins of the first one on the 4thbefore getting bored, wandering off, and chilling with my cousin and his neighbor over some beers.

The movie had all the thrills of watching security camera footage, and if I want to do that I'll get a job as mall security.

But, whatever, different strokes for different folks, I guess. Still, two prequels? That's... both hilarious and sad.

It's more for the people who enjoy the idea of ghosts and paranormal stuff happening, you really won't like it if you're just watching it because you were told it's scary.

I suppose. I mean I think paranormal stuff is interesting, but I've never cared for the found footage genre of movies.

Though to me it seems like these movies are film-versions of internet screamers, if that makes sense.

It's all about scaring yourself, rather than being scared. Nothing really happens — you fill in the scary stuff yourself as you watch.

However, if you're not one to create the tension, or if you don't have too much of an over-active imagination the movie can be pretty lame. It will literally come across as nothing happening (which is what it is... but that is also why it's scary).

Hard to explain [lol]

Self-fulfilled horror. Tension is self-created.

The movie played at Fantastic Fest last night, apparently to pretty decent reception.

It is becoming the new Saw. I'm in the camp that says later Saw movies were, generally, still good films... albeit films in which you had to seriously suspend your disbelief later on.

The new trailer doesn't look un-scary, but it's kind of like "subtlety be damned" at this point; you can see they're kind of losing their grip in this respect, believing that they can't one-up the earlier films without making things "flashier." There look to be many cheap gags that the original mostly shied away from (a lot more stuff comparable to the Ouija board catching on fire), plus noticeably more obvious "acting" and a less naturally flowing plot. They seem to be trying to shoehorn in the backstory here, which is another minus, although I am at least interested in the idea that they're going about the story backwards...

Also, I am personally glad they are keeping the found footage angle. Doing away with it killed Blair Witch 2, and will probably kill Cloverfield 2. I think the PA filmmakers know that the found footage thing works for the series.

I don't know, at least the demon is being a bit more extreme here which makes me wonder why he died it down for modern day.

Well it looks pretty fine and might work.

The new film had the biggest midnight gross for the franchise yet.

Just watched it, it sucked ass! It was NOT scary at all (and i'm a pussy at horror films) and was very badly explained as well - not worth the price of entry!

And now it has the biggest opening for any horror film, ever...

Get ready for four or five more.

I thought it was really good. The plot was well done and the scares were pretty great.

Plus the fan camera gave something more original to the franchise. plus the final act was ridiculousaly freaky and scary. I was on the edge of my seat.

I was also in an audience og a thousand teens but they all settled down pretty quick.

It sure is nice how all those TV spots keep advertising a completely different movie.

Yeah that is very irritating. I don't mind some scenes happening slightly differently ( like the bloody mary scene. I thought that was a good way to throw the audience off but still deliver the scene in general), but for them to advertise scenes that don't even happen at all is just cheap.

Just saw this film today. For me, the scariest part was the bedsheet scene. Good LORD, the bedsheet scene.
