If this is real, could Asura get in, or would he be too overpowered?

They put Dormammu in MVC 3, so I don't think power levels (On a side note, if he comes back, there is so going to be a "Dormammu! I'm here to bargin!" intro line)

"I wouldn't count Nova out given how heavily the company has been pushing the property the last few years.''

Well they've been pushing the Guardians. Not Nova. Unless they're pushing Nova in the comics as well. Even then, I suspect MCU representation would take priority over the comic representation, with a few exceptions.

Hopefully we get Phoenix Wright again.

I'd like to see him in his Dual Destinies outfit, and for his Level 3 to be updated with Apollo and Athena joining in on the conviction, as a reference to the climax of Dual Destinies.

Given Capcom's fighting properties besides Street Fighter are dead, though, and even the latter's borderline struggling, I'm kind of worried they'll double down and only stick to the most popular characters on their side.

Counter-argument: Marvel is huge right now. To the average Joe, any appeal on Capcom's side can't match up to the appeal on Marvel's side, which gives Capcom room to do whatever they want on their end.

Well they've been pushing the Guardians. Not Nova. Unless they're pushing Nova in the comics as well. Even then, I suspect MCU representation would take priority over the comic representation, with a few exceptions.

It's been a while since I really followed Marvel Comics, but they've been pushing the Sam Alexander version of Nova as one of their teen heroes. Then again, the fact that Gunn's been so openly pushing against using him in Guardians of the Galaxy probably doesn't help.

The MCU will definitely have a hand in a potential Marvel roster, partially because of Marvel wanting the advertising, and partially because the movies have done so well propelling the characters themselves (remember that UMvC3 predates The Avengers). However, I don't think the Fox-owned properties are as untouchable as a lot of people fear they'll be. And there are definitely some comic-only characters that would be worth some more love, such as Kamala Khan.

Marvel's recent video and mobile games have been a mixed bag where the X-Men are concerned. Some have them like Contest of Champions, while they are very obviously Exiled from Continuity in Marvel Future Fight and Avengers Academy. Lego Avengers, despite being touted as a celebration of the Avengers' 50 years of history, conveniently left out any Avenger who happened to have their movie rights owned by Fox (so no Wolverine, Ben Grimm, Rogue, Havok, Storm, ect.) with the exception of the MCU versions of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.

And even then, some of the games take it a step further and outright omit Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver too.

Kamala Khan would be the lamest fighting game character ever and should be avoided at all costs.

That being said, if this is true and they are using the comics as a basis, it really depends on what's top priority.

Expect non-Khan Inhumans in other words.

[up]What's so wrong about Kamala as a fighting game character?

[up] Lame power set. There's a reason Super Skrull was used with all the other powers of the Fantastic Four.

Dhalism and Necro seem to do just fine with stretching fighting.

That being said, if this is true and they are using the comics as a basis, it really depends on what's top priority. Expect non-Khan Inhumans in other words.

If we're going by comic priorities, Kamala is the only Inhuman people actually like. Except Lockjaw.

[up] The problem is her powers are really, REALLY lame for a fighting game. I point to Super Skrull again.

And like I just said, Street Fighter already has two characters with the same powers who do just fine, one of whom is a massive fan favorite. So clearly saying they're lame is a subjective take.

Going to prod the discussion along, Dhalsim and Necro both also have powers and skillsets past just "stretchy." Respectively, Dhalsim has Playing with Fire with a dash of Psychic Powers and Necro has Shock and Awe.

So, may I ask, what does young Ms. Marvel offer along with shapeshifting?note

[up]That's why they had to add the other powers of the Fantastic Four to Super Skrull, to keep him from being boring. Dhalsim's teleportation and Necro's attempt to mimic Blanka's electricity-based offense offer that. Ms. Marvel does not.

Stretching is only a boring fighting ability if the creative team lacks the imagination to pull it off. Like was just said, Battletoads already got a lot of mileage out of it. Aside from someone just plain not liking the character, I'm not seeing anything about Ms. Marvel that'd rule her out.

Depending on whether or not they are indeed declaring the X-Men off limits I could see the Marvel side shaking something like (going off the assumption that like MVC 3 it'd be 18 characters for each side)

Iron Man

Captain America

Thor

Hulk

Wolverine

Black Panther

Doctor Strange

Storm

Deadpool

Someone from the Netflix shows

Hawkeye

Captain Marvel

Sentinel

Magneto

Ms. Marvel

Rocket Raccoon (with Groot appearing in special moves)

Gamora

Spider-Man

Thanos (boss)

Shapeshifting was easily the least boring of Super Skrull's powers and was most likely only added to complete the set. Kamala Khan would fit right in.

If nothing else Phoenix Wright's superpower is being a lawyer. If they can make a creative moveset out of that, then I see no reason why they can't do the same with Ms. Marvel.

Someone from the Netflix shows

Luckily, we have Iron Fist for that. With his new show coming in March, it would be a good time for him too.

@Ms Marvel: I think saying her comic powers makes her lame is doing a disservice to fighting game devs. Mo matter what Alot of characters that make it into licensed fighters have alot of work done to make them more viable, taking their powers in different and unique directions. Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax, turned characters who don't even fight into playable characters. Even in Mv C itself, Phoenix Wright is a lawyer who never fights in his own series, and yet he got a popular movelist.

If this game is happening, I wonder if we might finally see the return of Venom. Marvel told Capcom he was off-limits for MVC 3 and the popular explanation seems to be that Capcom Japan wanted to use classic, evil Venom, while at the time, Marvel was getting ready to push Venom as a hero.

Now that they've gone back to classic, evil Venom in the comics, there should be less of an issue.

So, may I ask, what does young Ms. Marvel offer along with shapeshifting?

As of right now, besides using her stretchy powers the same way Super Skrull does in U Mv C 3 (that is, stretching arms&legs and embiggening hands&feet), she also often pulls a page from Pym's book by going small or big (roughly Sentinel-sized). She can also change her outer appearance (including colour) to completely look like normal objects or even other people note

For misc. moves, there's this ball of fun, this goofy headbutt, and a good old-fashioned rock throw.

For supporting characters that could be part of her moveset, there's Lockjaw note , her friend Bruno note , and Captain Marvel note .

So yeah, there's a lot of material to work with.

And since we're making suggestions for a potential Mv C 4, I think Agent Venom, Squirrel Girl and Moon Girl (w/Devil Dinosaur) would all also make good additions. The latter in particular would fit like a glove next to Tron Bonne.

My ideas for a potential MVC 4 (Marvel Side):

  • Iron Man
  • Captain America
  • Hulk
  • Thor
  • Spider-Man
  • Wolverine
  • Storm
  • Deadpool
  • Rogue
  • Shadowcat
  • Squirrel Girl
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • Iceman
  • Dr. Strange
  • Black Panther
  • Hawkeye
  • Black Widow
  • Ant-Man
  • Venom
  • Doc Ock
  • Magneto
  • Thanos
  • Mordo
  • Red Skull
  • Mordo
  • Daredevil
  • Iron Fist

Also, I think Fox only owns the movie rights for X-Men and Fantastic Four.

You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!

Also, I think Fox only owns the movie rights for X-Men and Fantastic Four.

They don't own video game rights but Marvel has recently been downplaying or flat out excluding characters whose film rights they don't own.

So, on the subject of expected stuff, how do you guys think they might handle the graphics?

You think they'll keep the cel-shading from MVC 3 or take a different approach in appearance such as looking like Street Fighter V or maybe even like Guilty Gear and BlazBlue?

(Or is Guilty Gear and BlazBlue a little too niche for other fighting titles to replicate its visual style?)

They're not going to go the Arc System Works path anytime soon because AFAIK they have no interest in going back to sprites. 2.5D all the way baby. wink

As for overall potential style, I could actually totally see them sticking with the comic-booky cel-shading, just updated for modern systems/standards.

Sprite work is dead in the mainstream. I hate to type that because I love it visually for fighting games multitudes more than Capcom's shitty 3-D models, but there it is.

Here's my Capcom darkhorse wish list that won't make it into the game by any means.

I love sprites more than models for Capcom fighting games.

It's sad that sprites are dead in the mainstream. Why have they been relegated to indie games?

Arc System Works could do some pretty great stuff with MvC. It's not like to happen but you can always dream.
