But what I'm confused about is, why do we have Action Girl and Action Hero now? I know the description for the sandbox of Action Hero says that Action Girl is NOT the Distaff Counterpart...but really, they sound the same to a degree.
Action Hero: Male or female badass who often gets into physical fights. Action Girl: Female badass who often gets into physical fights (and has an unfortunate amount of DoubleStandards plaguing her).
That's what I get from both sandboxes so far...so Action Girl is Action Hero...but female? Can someone please point out the differences for me that warrant separate tropes? Because if Action Hero can be male or female, I suggest putting them together and mentioning the Double Standard stuff there.
I totally hate my avatar. Just saying.Your definitions are wrong. It might have started that way, but we've clarified the definitions of the two.
Action Hero: A character who uses fighting to progress through the plot.
Action Girl: A female badass. For the sake of simplicity, a female fighter.
You can be a female fighter, without using fighting to progress through the plot. Most obviously by being a villain, and therefore not being a hero that needs to progress anywhere. Hence, Dark Action Girl, which is a type of Action Girl. Pretty much all Action Heroes are badasses, but no all badasses are action heroes.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. But if that's the case why don't we have Action Guy?
Because if Action Girl simply equals female badass then how do male badasses get troped? Because they if just get badass that is a Double Standard for various reasons to me at least. It's like saying male badass = nothing special, it's "normal", so just shove them under either Action Hero and/or badass. Female badass = that doesn't happen too often, so give them Action Girl, badass and if they are The Hero as well or some other plot-mover, Action Hero, as well.
I totally hate my avatar. Just saying. So what does everyone think about the Sandbox.Action Hero write up?
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)I trimmed it a bit. You went for a much more verbose style than I use. I generally focused on the various ways it can be applied.
Fight smart, not fair.It was pretty good last time I looked.
As a general piece of advice, you can really cut loose on the implications and ways to use a trope on the Analysis page. Sign your name at the bottom if you don't want it fiddled with.
Fight smart, not fair.I say we should just apply the K.I.S.S. principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid) and rename this trope to Hollywood Action Hero.
Hollywood Action Hero is supposed to be split off into its own trope, and Action Hero repurposed for a different description writeup.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I went ahead and switch out the descriptions, problem is all the examples are for Hollywood Action Hero Guy, basically. Ugh, that needs to be TR Sd now to be the actual Hollywood Action Hero. Not sure what to do for examples, send to YKTTW? Farm from wicks? Cut 'em all since it's so common?
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Again, I want to point out the existence of Action Genre Hero Guy as another trope related to all this.
We've talked about it, basically that needs to be TR Sed, now. Anyone want to open up a thread for that?

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Is anyone gonna get around to making the Hollywood Action Hero page for the old version of this trope. All you need ot do is copy and paste the history and the trope examples.
Basically:
- Action Hero: Any hero who prefers to use force and brawn to solve their problems.
- Hollywood Action Hero: A subtrope about the muscular guys with BFGs and Good Old Fisticuffs that are often seen in Hollywood action movies.
Yeah, we definitely need to work on that thing. I think we need some more opinions as to whether people think stealing the old description from Action Hero wholesale is alright for it.
Also, what the heck are we gong to do about the examples on the Action Hero page, they are pretty specific to the Hollywood Action Hero trope.

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)It's not indexed. Come to think of it, aside from Hollywood Style, which essential indexes would this trope qualify for?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.

I don't really think Action Hero though is someone who is just involved in 'action', especially if we are making it a true counter part to the Guile Hero and Science Hero, so I don't know how much of that just "being physically active" in the story should count. That stuff I think has more to do with an Action Movie or a Hollywood Action Hero Man.
