Scorsese wanted to do Charlie And The Chocolate Factory back in the 1990's (reportedly with Robin Williams starring). He pulled out due to production delays (and Harvey Weinstein forcing reshoots on Gangs Of New York).
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/This is exactly the kind of film I'll have no choice but to see, due to being physically dragged by my best friend if I don't. At the same time, I'll give any Scorsese film a chance, and since I have a Cineworld Unlimited Card I don't need to pay, so I'll suggest it if she doesn't.
Expecting good things, despite an underwhelming trailer.
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username.Saw it today. It's actually pretty good, if a bit of odd, neither quite realistic nor quite Magical Realism. The sequence in which Hugo has a nightmare about becoming an automaton is worth the price of admission by itself.
That's Feo . . . He's a disgusting, mysoginistic, paedophilic asshat who moonlights as a shitty writer—Something AwfulSaw it yesterday afternoon. My second favorite movie this year.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/You know, I don't think that I've ever seen a movie that was so benefited by its flaws. It was hokey, cliched, chocolate-boxey, and melodramatic... and that was precisely the point. When you're homaging the history of film in all its creaky glory, making the whole affair too slick and sophisticated just doesn't work. Instead, we got a nice warm bath of nostalgia with some absolutely fantastic visuals. Very pleasant experience all round.
What's precedent ever done for us?

If Spielberg could make a films like Schindlers List and AI Artificial Intelligence after being typecasted as Disney-esque,if Burton could do the Batman films after quickly being established as one for black-comedy,if Snyder could do Legend Of The Guardians
Then why the heck can't Scorsese pull this off?
