This one is fairly minor, but it's bugged me many times throughout my usage of the wiki.

I'm wondering if we can tweak the layout for ads so that the buttons for various actions (Edit Page and Discuss most heavily on trope pages; thread watchlist and profile in the forum) and the top ad banner have more space between them.

I ask mostly because I keep misclicking and going to the ad when I've meant to do a particular action on the wiki. I'm not the most graceful with a mouse, but I don't think I'm the only one misclicking.

I'm not concerned about placement, ad existence (don't try to push an ad blocker on me; I would've used one already if I wasn't interested), or anything like that. Just think a few more pixels of real estate between ads and wiki and forum functions would be nice.

Made the adjustment in the forums. Very leery of making that change in the wiki. It might be that a big piece of revenue is coming from those accidental clicks, a piece we can't afford to miss out on. Also, it looks plenty roomy, really.

Fair enough - the amount added to the forums looks great.

So it is paid-to-click? That's okay with me.

chihuaha: DO NOT click random ads just to help the Wiki. That's click fraud, and can get us kicked off their service.

How different is that from design issues leading to accidental clicks, though?

And what if I click an ad just to check that they are working, or want to take a look at the product, but don't end up buying? How can be that "fraud"? Staring at a store display ≠ wanting to buy.

But there's a big difference between "clicked on it by accident" or "clicked on it on purpose, but decided you weren't interested" and "clicked on random links to artificially improve the site's ad performance." The first two are normal, the third is a no-no. I have no idea how they would prove it, but that's the difference.
