Coincidentally, I just bought a box of Double Diamond yesterday and pulled the alt art Ciel.

Still, interesting she's apart of the Hyakki Yagyō... and a tad ironic. Ya know, since she's a nun and it's a parade of demons?

Damn. Sistermon was totally nuts.

She basically forced the other digimon into a death race to fuel her own insane lust to be the fastest and strongest.

Next week, Clockmon becomes Chekhov's Gun-mon, because he's back for revenge!

It was a fun episode, and that certainly wasn't a personality I expected to see from that species.

Anyway, I didn't expect a Digimon as obscure as MetalPhantomon to make an appearance again just after the previous season shows it again after a long absence in anime.

And yeah, that's an unexpected personality for Ciel, but well, the Sirenmon two episodes ago also have some unexpected things going on. A lot of Digimon in this series seems to be intentionally made creepier and more crazy than in any other series.

Also, nice, we got two Analyzer scenes this episode

And finally, the kids really need to start putting a lot more thoughts on keeping Jellymon near them because this is now the second time an event that nearly killed all of them is partly her fault. First time if she didn't touch the talisman nothing bad would've happened, and now had she told others about Ciel much sooner and didn't gave Ciel a kart, the last race probably could have been avoided.

Okay, lets see who exactly we have amidst the Hyakki Yagyō... who are admittedly more like the Niju Yagyō since there's only 20~ of them including the partner Digimon:

Also, that video call they had was adorable. Gammamon getting up in the camera, Ruli's cheery hello, Angoramon in the background just holding his hand up to say hi. I have to say, the main cast of this series are all different shades of adorkable. The initial part of the Go Kart trip was likewise a nice bit of showing the group having fun together, further making them feel like actual friends and teammates.

I'm also much more curious about Jellymon's background now. The way she talked about Ciel, it's almost as if she knew her personally.

And good lord is the Sistermon Ciel a complete psychopath. Not only is she a a far cry from her usual role as one of Huckmon's caretakers and Gankoomon's aids, she's a complete adrenaline junkie who has no trouble fighting dirty and giving other Digimon up to Metalfantomon just so the race is more "exciting" and so she can be the "fastest and strongest". It's not even a case of Naughty Nuns, she is just legitimately batshit crazy. Especially jarring when, according to the Digimon Reference book, it's usually a very gentle Digimon more akin to Silk Hiding Steel. What's worse is, this psycho is still at large, just now in the Digital World.

And more and more I want to know what the deal is with that BlackTailmon. They just suddenly pop out of nowhere with a pressure cooker of all things, and use said pressure cooker to open a Digital Gate?! Who?! What?! WHY?!

Next time, he finally returns and wants to steal Hiro's time: the return of Clockmon.

While Jellymon didn't help matters, I doubt not giving Ciel the kart would have changed anything. She was already attacking cars on the street looking for a ride, so all that would have changed was having Ciel cause more car wrecks looking for a faster ride, and maybe caused more of the Hyakki Yagyō to be absorbed by Metalfantomon than the ones that already were.

Also I just remembered, nice to see Hiro's lockpicking skill being shown again, this time in front of Ruli and Kiyoshiro.

And for a girl, Ruli sure is a big fan and an expert at go-karting. This is definitely not her first time.

Also kinda lol'd when Jellymon threw that helmet to Kiyoshiro and tells him to hop in, all while she's the one who drives

Well this episode was really fun, the increasing escalation with every revelation in this race made for some entertaining stakes.

Trying to pit Sistermon Ciel against Metalphantomon was a neat gambit, I kinda wish it worked instead of convenient Black Gatomon with cooker gate to resolve things.

Ruli continues to show a lot of different skills, some neat character building and it's nice that they skype each other.

tbh between Hiro's doormat nature leading him to go "well okay sure I'll lockpick my way into locked off spaces and steal a go-kart this is a perfectly normal response to trying to resolve someone else stealing a go-kart", Ruli being the impetus for doing that and other stuff like with screwing around in the karaoke place, Kiyoshiro's "yes I will hack literally anything connected to the internet in my vicinity to put in some unauthorized software because SAFETY", and the former two's "well Jellymon's your problem" shrug to her being Kiyoshiro's partner, I'm not really surprised that Jellymon has the free range to do whatever because This Is Fine™, they'll just fix it by being equally irresponsible at times.

Also, are we gonna talk about the fact that someone fucking died from Digimon this episode? Cause I doubt that truck driver managed to survive his truck crashing and then exploding. Yeah, prior episodes had people close to death because of Digimon, but they still ended up surviving. Both the couple and the truck driver from the beginning though we have no indication they survived. So, yeah, three people are more than likely dead now thanks to Digimon, or more specifically, this psychotic Sistermon Ciel's death race.

Am I reading too much into the fact that, of all the characters they could have used for this, they chose the one who invokes a western religion?

I mean, the anime hasn't cared that much for descriptions of what the monsters are like for the card game, but this is a pretty big shift from how Sistermon is supposed to be, so I can't help but find it odd.

Noir was censored because she looked too much like an actual Catholic Nun. Apparently, the creation of "Sistermon Ciel" was originally just giving Noir a Palette Swap, chaning her outfit from black to white. The actual Sistermon Ciel was then conceptualized later on as an actual Digimon. Yeah, apparently the entire reason Noir was censored was because she looked too much like a generic nun, enough that just recoloring her was enough.

I can only assume it was a Moral Guardians issue, since there are plenty of anime and games that have Nun Too Holy characters without needing to change their habit colors, one prime example being The Church of Violence from Black Lagoon, since they all look like actual nuns or priests... and are just as batshit crazy as everyone else in Roanapur.

Noir has been used after Ciel became a thing tho. Noir always goes with Blanc, while Ciel is more of a solo agent.

Never heard of Noir being censored or anything.

The game Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory is where Noir first appeared in a game that would be imported to the West. Instead, Noir was censored and became Sistermon Ciel, made noticeable since she was just a◊ Palette Swap of Noir with a minor habit ear alteration rather than her own Digimon at the time. (Notice the model is using twin pistols like Noir unlike the katana Ciel is known to use)

The card game likewise did something similar, as when Sistermon Noir was set to come out in Booster Set 6: Double Diamond, the English release instead got Sistermon Ciel. Booster Set 7: Next Adventure likewise got Sistermon Noir (Awakened), while Bandai's English division has already confirmed that when Booster Set 7 is released in the west, it will instead be Sistermon Ciel (Awakened). They also took the time to edit Noir out of the art for BaoHuckmon. Here's the JP art◊ and EN art◊ for point of reference. And since Ciel was already present in the art, they couldn't just change Noir to Ciel, so they just flat out removed her.

That was extra dumb because several games had already used BomberNanimon. And if it was really that big a deal, why not just edit it to regular Nanimon?!
