Okay, so I thought long and hard, thinking if I should really start this RP. My last three R Ps had never gotten a single response and my fourth one ground to a halt. SO, I thought for a long hard while and decided that something different was necessary.... and so The Alchemist's Curse was born

Info

The world as we know it is not the same as we thought. Concepts such as Alchemy has been used for many years, magical technology such as Magitek has been possible due to a combination of Alchemy and Mana, Mana itself having been around for quite a while, and you are the one using it. You, are a member of a secretive United Nations government agency known as United Nations Bureau of Alchemistic Affairs, or the U.N.B.A.A., an agency set up to deal with the magical events. Being a member of the government, you have a responsibility to your job as a Alchemy (or Mana) user, and you are expected to uphold that responsibility till the day you die. Now if only the people who are trying to kill you would buzz off, bummer.

Rules

  • The basics, no godmodding, ghosting, or autohitting
  • This RP is supposed to be very free-form, but it is supposed to be very plot-oriented, but you may run your own subplot if you wish
  • Being a member of the government, you're expected to act properly, this includes in-character and using general etiquette.
  • No boring characters, if the plot is to go anywhere, you need to have a character with zeal
  • There will be three NP Cs, they will be your superiors and they will be played by anyone who wants to be one, I'll take request when the RP begins to start itself
  • No spotlight hogging, that is a no-no
  • The RP starts in a meeting room of the U.N.B.A.A., be there when it starts
  • When you write, put at least half a paragraph down.

Your Species:

  • Human
    • Your average human being, humans are surprisingly capable of using the most Mana and Alchemy based magic. Humans appear as any average human being, even with their diversity they are all the same.
  • Chimera
    • A fusion of animals created by experiments through either {{Mana} or Alchemy, most Chimeras are intelligent to the point of sapience and are very well respected in the U.N.B.A.A.. Chimeras have the ability to turn into a human form with some of their animalistic parts remaining, while most consider these cosmetic and can be hidden, some have more trouble with parts such as tails exposed. It should be noted that certain Chimeras have had dragon or dinosaur genes as part of their creation process.
  • Homunculus
    • Artificial beings made through alchemic experiments, a homunculus is created by a powerful alchemist transferring their Mana into artificial bodies, giving them great power. Homunculi abilities vary greatly between individuals, so one homunculi will always be different from the next. It should be noted that not all Homunculi look entirely human, some alchemist have actually turned themselves into combinations of human bodies and animals, plants or even mechanical parts, but this changed nothing to the higher-ups in the U.N.B.A.A. and they welcome them with open arms.
  • Dragon
    • The greatest beings of all, they are one of the primary founders of the U.N.B.A.A. and are the main superiors. Dragons are off the highest tier of Mana and Alchemy users and are thus treated with great respect. It should be noted that the four different subspecies of dragons, Aqua (water), Terra (earth), Ventus (wind), Ignis (fire), and Astrum (celestial), are in a rather shaky alliance with each other.
  • Robotic Homunculi
    • Homunculi whose Mana was transfered into a robotic body rather than an artificial biological one. They are often primarily made of Magitek and such have more robotic capacity then normal Homunculi.

Alchemist Positions

  • Alchemist: The basics, transmutation magic and such, Alchemist can also make bombs, and other items that use chemicals.
  • Magitek Expert: Also called Technomancers, Magitek Experts, use a fusion of Alchemy and Mana to use magic and fuel their devices.
  • Arcanist: Users of Arcane magic, while they do not use alchemy, they are capable of using the five elements and are the most capable magic users.

So you wanna work for the U.N.B.A.A.

  • Name: Obvious
  • Age: You're how old??
  • Gender: Be you a mate or a wrench
  • Alignment: This should be fairly obvious
  • Species: Be you, Human, Homunculi, Chimera or dragon
  • Subspecies: Only if you're a dragon
  • Position: You're one of the positions on alchemy, aren't you, you gotta go something
  • Birthplace: Anywhere
  • Ethnicity: Only answer if you're if you're human or homunculi
  • Appearance: You must look like something, at least have a face
  • Skills: About anything you can do, combat, mundane, or normal and overpowered characters will be rejected immediately
  • Equipment: Any weapons you have with you, or anything else, like game systems, wallet, keys, flash drives, what ever is necessary for your character
  • Personality: They're a person aren't they, they gotta be like something, come on, list their likes, dislikes, whatever
  • Backstory: You know the drill by now hopefully.

If you have any questions, asks and you shall receive... now starts signing up, an RP doesn't start itself.

Si there any specific limitation on how a robotic homonculus functions? Does it have to be electrical or clockwork or powered by a mix of mana and alchemy?

I am interested in this. I have a question however: for organic homonculus, if I so choose to affiliate one with plants, how exactly would that be incorperated into them? would the be a plant creature? would there body be able to morph into it? Is it entirely my decision? I wish to remain in what you would consider to be normal for the race/creations

[up] When they affiliate themselves with plants, think the Lif homunculus from Ragnorak Online, except sapient.

Can a Homonculus graft animal parts onto himself?

[up] only when an alchemist is transferring their Mana into the Homunculi body, they need to do it pre-transference

That's what I meant, yeah. And do the all parts have to be from one animal?

[up] no just believably be able to function without the Homunculi dying of either Mana overload, as in any animal, but dragons can be grafted on to a Homunculi

How much would be enough to cause mana overload?

Well, since dragons contain their mana after they die, I would say the alchemist mana, plus any significant part of the dragon, arms, legs, tail, wings and such. However if one chose to be a Chimera, being fused with a dragon is different.

But aside from that, the Homonculus can have as many animal bits on them as they like?

Right. Let me know if anything here violates the magic system or is just generally OP.

•Name:Doctor Thaddeus Finch. Formerly, Percy Blanche.

•Age:36.

•Gender:Male.

•Alignment:Lawful Evil.

•Species:Homonculus.

•Position:Alchemist.

•Birthplace:London, England.

•Ethnicity:Caucasian.

•Appearance:At first glance, Thaddeus appears to be a normal enough man, 5'11 and dressed in a rather large coat that covers up the vast majority of his body and broad brimmed hat. Then, you notice that his face is covered by a porcelain mask, cold, reptilian eyes staring through the holes. The mask is bone white and segmented in places, allowing Thaddues to mimic human expressions. It depicts a man with a hawklike nose, thin lips, and narrowed eyes.

He usually keeps his left arm either behind his back or wrapped around his waist, most likely because it is in fact a long, thick tentacle, covered in rough green scales and viscous slime. Under the coat, Thaddeus' skin is multicolored, patches of fur, scales, feathers, crude leather, and even bits of human skin all compose the good doctor's epidermal layer.

His legs are like those of a big cat that end in avian talons. His right hand is constantly clad in a tight leather glove, as the short claws attached to the long, boney fingers tend to get in the way of delicate work. His voice is low and throaty, his tone sitting between gentlemanly and animalistic growling.

•Skills:Thaddues is an accomplished alchemist, as evidenced by the fact that he is now a homonculus. He specialises in transformative mixtures, potion-like mixtures that alter the drinker's physiology to enhance physical attributes, alter facial features, or turn them into something else entirely. His new physical structure grants him a few more options in combat. The tentacle that serves as his left arm can be used to grapple or crush enemies and his feline legs give him an increased land speed.

•Equipment:Aside from his clothes and mask, Thaddues always carries a few empty test tubes and a small handful of smoke bombs.

•Personality:Thaddues considers himself a man of science. Well, a man of alchemy, really. He sees the world as a massive testing ground for whatever concoction he'd care to think of. Every person is a potential test subject and every plant and animal is an ingredient. Overall, Thaddeus is rather chipper when dealing with others, always cheerful and upbeat, like every day is the first day of summer vacation.

•Backstory:Born Percy Blanche, Thaddeus was always facinated with the sciences, especially biology. As he grew older, Thaddues took up a carreer in that same practice, carrying several degrees with him. However, Thaddues' methods quickly became frowned upon in the scientific community. True, his methods could be called inhuman at best, such as when he replaced a man's hand with a live gorilla, but who were they to look down on him? They were equals! Thaddeus decided to show them that turning their noses up at his theories and practices was the last thing they'd do.

So, he changed his name to something a bit more fiting and began studying alchemy,. Within the span of a decade, he'd created a new body from parts of numerous animals, a homonculus they called it. He transfered his mind, and his mana, into the lifeless husk, becoming the (literal) monster he is today. After that, Thaddeus joined the U.N.B.A.A and now plans on taking revenge on his former collegues.

Somehow, he hasn't really fleshed out the revenge plans yet.

So, a homonculous used to be a person? Could I play, say, a normal robot that happens to be powered by magic?

  • Name: Harvey Tarreldssen
  • Age: 31
  • Gender: Male
  • Alignment: Lawful Neutral
  • Species: Human
  • Position: Soldier/Alchemist
  • Birthplace: France
  • Ethnicity: French
  • Appearance: Harvey is a short, bulky man, with a lantern jaw, stubble, and a scowl. He wears a semi-formal white shirt when indoors and a brown trenchcoat outside, standard for the P Is of France. He always has an enormous, occasionally unlit cigar in his mouth.
  • Skills: Harvey isn't the best shot with a revolver, but he can consistently hit exposed center mass in a human. He is especially skilled in dealing with mages and other extranormals, though, with a tendency to simply shrug off spells thrown his way. He's also a great detective, though it's not like he has a great deal of those fancy book smarts.
  • Equipment: Harvey carries a single enormous double-action six-shooter, every single part and bullet of which is made of special cold iron made to render mana, homunculi, and other magical abilities nonfunctional until the bullet is removed. He also has a pair of cold iron knuckledusters with similar properties, though these just significantly stun and damage mana and magical constructs, outright disintegrating spells, if he can punch them. It's not exactly equipment, but due to his time in prison he also has a great deal of underground connections.
  • Personality: Harvey is an angry, angry, simple man. He loves to fight and bring arrogant assholes to justice, and has a general psychotic knee-jerk hate and blame of magic. He honestly believes the world would be better without it, but it's not like he won't give magic users a fair chance to prove themselves.
  • Backstory: Short and simple, because he remembers it exactly this well, Harvey was a cop and dabbling Alchemist that loved an Arcanist who cheated on him with another magic user, so he killed them both and developed an intense hatred of magic. He got fired from the force, and, after doing his time, he became a private detective whose main draw was his experience, iron weaponry, and skill with dealing with magic. UNBAA hired him as a legbreaker and token sketchy man, low-brow street-smarts guy, and here he is.
