So, I have no idea if this question goes here, but I'm pretty confident it's not fit for the main thread.
I'd like your help with a Naruto-verse OC. Basicly, someone who is a perfect ninja, but has no way to win in Naruto-world. Sort of like Badass Normal, but too much Normal and not enough Badass. What I have so far:
- No chakra. As in, very miniscule amount if at all. Logically, no Ninjutsu or Genjutsu, very lame Taijutsu levels.
- Although, learned to think his way out of Low- to Mid-level Genjutsus.
- Good with mundane traps, poisons, disguises and stealth.
- Near-perfect with intel gathering, "underneath the underneath" and "plans within plans".
- Bloodline optional, but nothing that gives him a serious advantage.
What are your comments to that? What are your suggestions? Would this power disparity cause him to become a drunkard and a missing-nin? If not, what would?
Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often. So, like Lee, except without his nigh-mystical ability to achieve Charles Atlas Superpower?
I can imagine that. It would depend on the personality of the individual, of course. This person would fit best as an infiltration type who went about on a team with some other more combat-capable people. Could be quite the asset; just isn't a powerhouse.

^^It says "All-Purpose" in the title. That includes fic advice. ;-)
It... could work. Being Muggle Weight on the Super Weight scale when everyone is Iron or Abnormal Weight would present unique challenges - think Action Survivor. Having him be unskilled in martial arts is a brave move, but don't make it a feature of his teammates.
No direct confrontations with Hidden Village Ninja. Facing one would be a serious threat. Civilian/normal human assassinations would be the limit.
He'd be part of a team, maybe a four-man/woman one so that when one is possessed by genjutsu, three others could stop him. It could be a sort of Muggle Power family/clan/village,to explain how he has traditional ninja training. Pretty paranoid and resentful. Maybe set up secretly by one of the daimayo as an experiment.
Poison and traps: The chuunin exam parts
of The Way of the Apartment Manager will give you an idea how poisons can be used in combat. Ragnar Benson's "Mantrapping" details real traps used in remote parts of the world.
One more point.
-Zykon, Order of the Stick
As for what could make him defect, take your pick. Doomed Hometown,Dead Little Sister,Knight Templar... all classic.

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. For a trump card against actual hidden village ninja, I suggest at most enough skill in fuinjutsu to seal things in storage scrolls.
Will help our muggle ninja out a lot.
Also, I can suggest guns. Lots of guns. Or a pair of crossbows (a la The Art of the Deal). Basically any weapon that will help level the playing field somewhat.
Neither goony beard-men nor rainbow-haired she-twinks will stand in the way of my dreams!Just give him either Crazy-Prepared and/or an affinity for Xanatos Gambit, and even as a civilian he'd be still be a major threat.

I'm kinda liking the thought of Action Survivor ninja myself. :-)
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.2nd Edit(since I had deleted the previous stuff): Guys, you do know that Shikamaru is listed in the Action Survivor trope page, right? Just letting you all know, and I'm sorry if I sound rude. It was not my intention to sound as such.

I have returned, and my vacation in the void was so boring...Thanks for all the suggestions, guys!
The background I've got for my Muggle so far is the following:
Enrolled into the academy as one of the "civilians", stellar grades on the first year. When the teachers learned his chakra was miniscule in later years, they tried to fail him, but he still was smart enough to compensate for that. During final exams he passed by acadamic prowess, manipulation of facts and a healthy dose of blackmail. When assigned to a team, the teammates treated him as useless, despite all the efforts to show them otherwise. So one day he left, saying "Let's see how well you'll do without me". On their next mission, his teammates achieved great success, on the mission after that they all died. This caused the Muggle to go hiding and drinking, until the heroes of the story met him.
Does this sound plausible enough?
Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.Well, I want to make him arrogant, with "I'm too smart to fight" attitude, also a little lazy and prone to drinking.
His teammates will be smart enough on their own, just... Kind of new to this "shinobi" business. And their opponents all have their issues
.

Yeah, you wouldn't want your character to be like a cheap Shikamaru (and I'm not only talking about Brilliant, but Lazy) copy without the shadows.
I've seen many of them already. ;__;

Okay, the "lazy" part goes. I can see what else would make him unmotivated enough to stay out of the canon storyline. So, how about this variant:
The Muggle (I need a name for him) does not have chakra circulatory system, instead all his body is a chakra conductor. Any chakra he generates is immediately and evenly dispersed, no control over the flow. Alcohol stuns his chakra production. Side effects: Genjutsus slip off from him; low-level ones immediately, strong ones gradually (which means that he's under the full effect of a Genjutsu at first).
Physical statistics (agility, strenght, endurance, everything) are all a good notch above human average, but still within humanly possible.
I wonder... What about making him paranoid when sober, so much that he can't work with the heroes of the story withough getting drunk?

Name? Jinkyou. Has the meanings "chivalry; generosity; heroism; chivalrous spirit; helping the weak and fighting the strong". It can either be ironic or something to be bitter about not living up to.
Tweak it so that even mild genjutsu affect him briefly. I wonder why you keep adding intrinsic power. I'm not pushing, just asking. Can you think of/write another way for them to take him on without him being special?

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.Say, is there a topic here where we can request fanart? Been on a Storage Wars marathon and can't get the images of Naruto as Dave Hester (with DATTEBAYO! instead of YUUUP!), Jiraiya as Darrell Sheets, Sasuke and Sakura as Jarrod and Brandi out of my head.
Neither goony beard-men nor rainbow-haired she-twinks will stand in the way of my dreams!@ Ack Sed: Why? Could be a bad habit of experimenting with unusual stuff.
Most likely, I'll just give him the most usual average-civilian chakra. And most likely, the heroes will accept him even if he forgot half of his ninja training.
Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.Ooh, I did not even know this thread existed. Good to know; Naruto fanfic has always been a semi-secret habit of mine.
So, while I'm here, can I make a recommendation request? Specifically for some Team 7 fic recommendations. Not the shippy kind, necessarily; just, stories with the team being awesome together instead of horribly, horribly dysfunctional. Yes, even Sakura.

deviantArt | TwitterJust for a change of pace, I wanna see God Mode Sakura... with a harem.
If she doesn't come across as obnoxious like every other God-Mode Sue Naruto does...
Re: Team 7 fics, that's more or less the direction Shinigan's going, if I ever get back in the swing of writing it. The only other one I can think of off the top of my head is A Teacher's Glory
, though there may be some others in my favorites list that I'm forgetting about.
There's one example of that...oh god, that one Groundhog's Day fic starring Sakura repeating the Chuunin exams and eventually becoming a multiversal goddess. What was it called though...
deviantArt | TwitterThat one was Time Braid. Very very good, but not quite what the poster was looking for, I think.
