Zero's easily one of the coolest characters in the Mega Man franchise.
Pretty sure Metal Sonic's taking this, though. Because of speed. Being a speedster is a Superpower Lottery ability and unlike Mewtwo, I don't know of anything Zero has that he can pull out to be like, "Aha! I see your broken-ass superpower and raise you MY EVEN MORE BROKEN-ASS SUPERPOWER!!!"
There are very few counters to super-speed, and Zero has none of the ones I know. He's a pretty top of the line fighter but only in the "A reasonable fight occurs" tiers, while Metal Sonic's straight out of the "Wait, what just happened? Why am I already dead?" tiers. So Zero's probably going to lose this on grounds that it doesn't matter how good a fighter you are when the other guy has a Story-Breaker Power.

Zero has a move
that allows him to stop time, so there's that.
Then again, if Akame ga Kill! taught me anything, it's that time freezing means jack if you can't find your opponent during it.

Zero has his entire history of different power ups from enemies he's defeated, similar to Classic Mega-Man, but unlike the latter, is a hell of a lot stronger, even without the Maverick Virus.
There's also the matter of what version of him they are using—X version or Zero series version—and how many of those abilities they are willing to give him.
To say nothing of Command Mission which introduces his action trigger and hyper mode based abilities, along with Final Strike.
Though I do agree that he may never have fought someone who's got as much speed as Metal Sonic, but we'll see. It took having an asteroid dropped on him to finally kill him...and only because he let it.
One Strip! One Strip!Dark Hold only works against non-boss enemies and the one dude whose Weakness Weapon it is, though, so I doubt it will be usable against Metal Sonic.
I'm actually not sure which of the two would have superior durability. One place the two overlap is that they both come from franchises where carving up robots is a valuable skill. Purely in terms of story flavor and theme, Zero should clinch the victory because he was built to kill powerful robots while Metal Sonic was just built to be a powerful robot. Like, if this were a DBX, Zero would be taking the win, no sweat.
But since this is a proper Death Battle, I just can't get past Metal Sonic's speed advantage. Even if Zero can tank a hundred hits from Metal Sonic, that's not going to matter if he can't land a blow before Metal Sonic lands his 101st.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Dark Hold not working against bosses (besides the dude it's weak against) could easily be Gameplay and Story Segregation however.
Plus, Time Stands Still tends to be the logical counter to Super-Speed (and vice versa).
I'm giving this to Zero. It's true, Metal's speed gives him an incredible advantage, but Zero can take a licking and keep on ticking (and sometimes, even when he stops ticking, he just comes back later), and once he gets around the speed, he's got a lot more tricks in his arsenal than Metal does.
One Strip! One Strip!Perhaps. I still think the part about getting around that speed is going to be what trips him up. As we saw in Mega Man v. Astro Boy, versatility doesn't beat power if the gulf is large enough.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.True, but Zero has Versatility, and is a lot more powerful than classic Mega Man.
He might still lose to Astro Boy same as Rock did, but he ain't fighting Astro Boy.
I think the strongest Metal has been is either his Metal Overlord state, and Super form from when he touched the Master Emerald.
And I don't think he has access to either of those wily nilly.
One Strip! One Strip!Oh.
Right. I'm gonna need a list of all the robotic sonics, just so I can be sure on my facts.
One Strip! One Strip!Zero does have a vast arsenal of attacks, which in a few games includes a move where if he is attacked he automatically counters, so there is that. Plus, there's his Superpowered Evil Side if he overloads on the Maverick Virus.

Metal's vulnerability after V Overdrive and his case of Too Fast Too Stop might be his undoing.

So, the latter, then. In essence, Omega is the Legacy Character to Awakened Zero.

On the one hand, episodes like Hercule Satan vs Dan Hibiki and Megazord vs. Voltron, while pretty obvious stomps, are entertaining stomps, and I at least wanna see them battle and be funny or cool.
On the other hand, episodes like Darth Vader vs. Doctor Doom, Mega Man vs Astro Boy and Flash vs. Quicksilver are more like sad foregone conclusions, where I'd rather the loser fight someone else where they stand even a little bit more of a chance.
