The Danse Macabre Codex
Forget victory dances; what we must do, at some point, is have the mechs combine.

Still trying to determine which one, though. Talks are ongoing X3
How can you be in two places at once when you're not anywhere at all?

At any rate, if we do start tonight, it's unlikely that I'll be able to get my intro post up before turning in.

Yeah, I didn't expect to get sidetracked as many times as I have been. It will be up tonight but I don't expect many responses until tomorrow.
Almost done.

Cookies to those who can guess the originating canons for the two from the first bit.

Signups. Explains the premise.
IC thread. This is where the fun takes place.
I suppose you guys have waited long enough for a discussion thread
You have been taken from your home universes through any means you can contrive IC, however the one thing they had in common is they were all digital communications. If you were military personnel, it would invariably be a superior calling you to appear in-person in your machine of choice, possibly to a proving ground or similar. If you were not military personnel The Call could have reached you several ways, but it would like also be arranging a meeting of some sort.
As soon as you reached the destination you would be hit with a flash of light and the next thing you knew, you (in your vehicle of choice) would be present on a large, mostly flat grasslands area, perfectly circular in shape, bordered by forest. The opening of the RP would be our vehicles coming together and meeting each other from equidistant points along the perimeter. Positioning is not fixed, appear next to or near whoever.
Now, for the business end.
Dimensions such as height and weight will have effects for ground units: units of certain sizes will not be able to travel on certain terrains without IC effects. Again, there is no stat system in play here, but use common sense at least. 100 ton vehicles cant walk over small bridges, and that rocket punch that hit your 10-ton frame is going to throw you a lot farther than your 50-ton counterpart. The ratio between height and weight are the primary factor determining your relative armor value. (with speed also being included)
Actions you take IC can have rather negative consequences, including machine destruction and possibly pilot injury or death. Destroyed machines will happen- expect it at least once or twice throughout the course of the RP- but normally it will be salvaged and fully repaired for next mission.
This is war. Your character isn't just going to dance and frolic through enemy fire with nary a scratch. You'll be taking hits as well as delivering them- if you're good you'll hurt them more than they hurt you. While again, this isn't a stat-based system, if you bother to do things like take cover or prioritize targets you'll probably do better on the field. If you do something stupid, I'll roll a die for effectiveness (Thanks for the inspiration, Faux). If you do something really stupid, or you're being a pretty terrible player and have 'ghosted'* or autohit all the time, I'll directly dictate results. Persist and your machine will be destroyed: the enemy wants to take down the godlike units first, the rest of the rabble can be dealt with after the primary threat is destroyed.
Missions can be failed. This will have an impact on the course of the RP. Since as stated before machine destruction is not permanent, do not be afraid to risk one or two units to get a job done. You're all professionals (well, most of you) and this is an extension of your job. Whether or not it's treated that way is left up to characterization, but hey, as long as you as a player know that.
The plot will be in the form of a chain of missions. Between missions will be down-time for character interaction. Currently the mission chain is looking to be rather long, but it is also flexible- a computer system will be showing a battlefield display and recommending several courses of action, and you can select from them. Order missions are done in do determine future mission availability and overall warfare effectiveness. Basically, we're fighting a miniature campaign. Along the way, Plot Happens.
So now, I start on the intro post. Have fun here while I do so.
Enjoy the lounge furniture.
