It says that pages in YMMV should be set to "Sub-page", and beyond that, the "A work's examples page" description even includes a hottip explaining that it is not to be used for YMMV. The issue is not with the guidelines, but with people not reading them.

I've seen at least 4 YMMV pages in the last week that are set to "example" instead of "subpage". This results in a YMMV page full of red bullets and a warning to move the red bulleted tropes to the YMMV tab even though that's where you are already. I think the "page type" subpage should make it clear that YMMV should be set to subpage, not example.
