Specifically, for Japan...

There are quite a few series I'm interested in seeing how well they're doing over there since I'm curious about some of the anime...

For example, the Marvel Anime...which appears to be negatively received in the west so far(through fansubs), yet I'm curious if this is a case of Americans Hate Tingle*

or if it's being negatively received in both sides of the world.

Plus, there are a few other anime I'm curious about....and how their rankings work. I was looking up a specific series to see how well it's doing, and it got "50th place" in preorder rankings...and the blogger considers that as doing well. And then there's the really experimental stuff like Panty And Stocking With Garterbelt which I'm curious about even if it has no effect on me*

That...and I wanna see how different/similar tastes in anime is in both sides of the world...and DVD/preorders is the only way I can think of.*

Lots of information is compiled in this thread. Sources are various Japanese blogs, 2ch, Futaba, etc.

Thanks, but.........how come neither Iron Man, Wolverine, nor X-Men is listed in those sales? Are they not being sold there at all? Or are they just doing so badly they don't even have numbers?

As for numbers that interests me the most...

  • Steins Gate is doing surprisingly well despite lack of attention in the west...no idea why the difference in popularity.

  • people weren't kidding when they say Infinite Stratos is doing better than expected. From the bit I read, it's mostly thanks to Charlotte.

  • Freezing did better than Gosick!

  • Fractale did better than Dragon Crisis!

  • Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka didn't do as well as I thought it would. I wonder what went wrong with this series since it has the formula of a popular series.

  • Apparently the rankings jump...some people buy DVD's for one portion of an anime and none for another portion?

I'm pretty sure the Marvel anime has not been solicited for disc sales in Japan.

...wait, then what was the point of those 4 Marvel Anime then?

Common sense tells me that anime, no matter how bad/good they are, are never cheap to produce. And one of the main driving force in terms of profits is DVD/BD sales.

What's the point of those anime if they aren't going to sell them as DVD/BD? Merchandising?

Hmmm....Lotte No Omocha is doing exactly as well as I expected it to...and by that, I mean not very well at all. Same goes for Level E, I guess he's only popular for Hunter X Hunter.

[up][up]

The were coproduced by US Interests. Most likely they will get box sets in Japan sometime down the road though.
