Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Probably. "A longtime Democratic consultant, Devine worked on Al Gore’s presidential campaign in 2000 and John Kerry’s in 2004. He worked with Paul Manafort on Viktor Yanukovych’s 2010 presidential campaign, but backed away after the election, when Yanukovych began clamping down on dissent." is not a very strong "Russian stooge" case for Devine after all.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanCan I get a source on this?
i'm tired, my friendThe PEW research center has released its data on political trends amongst various demographic group
.
Most strikingly amongst Millennials there is a gender gap
for supporting the Democratic Party. Males support it 49% vs 41% support Republicans and Females support it 70% vs 23% support Republicans.
Strategically this is really good for the party because women make up half of the population and if they can get that demographic solidly in their camp then things could go very badly for the Republicans.
On one hand I'm quite happy that Millenial women so strongly support the Democratic Party but on the other hand what the hell Millenial men?! That's shamefully close.

Yes, I'm not really confused or even very surprised. Obviously they're bigoted and/or selfish, still it's terrible and shameful. Still in-spite of their awfulness the support amongst Millennial women is very encouraging and if we can realize it then the Republicans will likely face some serious electoral issues.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangThe alt-right certainly seems like a younger thing, so I'm not really sure what the surprise is about. Just be thankful for the significant gap and hope/try and make it widen.
And, honestly, who is it shameful for? Because I'm certainly not ashamed that there are a lot of dicks who happen to be the same gender and age range as me.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangHmm, interesting. I'm a white male but I've never had the values or temperament to likely be attracted to such groups. The fact that for much of my life I was raised as a Muslim almost certainly had something to do with it.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangI was never drawn to such things, but there was a period of my life I was worried they were right and things like diversity and cultural tolerance were actually harmful to society, and my natural inclination towards liberal views was actually stupid.
But that was back before my critical thinking skills really developed, and I understand that a lot of places on the internet are not to be trusted.

We knew this. The guy was one of three recipients for Russian election meddling in 2016. They were pushing both Trump and Sanders, as well as Jill Stein. Sanders was also one of only two Senators who voted not to push new sanctions on to Russia for their election meddling. Russia tried to help him win 2016 and he, in turn, tried to shield Russia from the consequences of it.
The evidence just keeps mounting up. The guy's a Russian stooge. Of course, he's a Russian stooge; he loved the Soviet Union so much that he spent his honeymoon there, and that was during the Cold War. The only way he could be more guilty was if he was Trump.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I’d guess with Sanders he’s a much less direct stooge, Putin is helping him because Sanders USSR nostalgia and isolationism would benefit him, rather than the more direct admiration that he gets from Trump and the more direct coordination Putin had with the Trump campaign.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranJill Stein was a puppet for the Republican party. They've since chased down the economic paper trail that reveals her entire campaign was funded for her by the RNC so she could divert votes from Hillary.
She made off with a lot of money afterward.

included in Mueller's indictment of Manafort. Tad Devine shows up on 21 items, the most recent being a memo to Manafort's Russian-Ukrainian partner and fellow indictee Konstantin Kilimnik in June 2014.
In November 2014, Devine joined the Sanders campaign.
One day, we will read his name in the news and cheer.![]()
Quite, the Green Party are nothing more than useful idiots for the enemies of progress. Any decent Green would just be a Democrat.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangMan, this thread moves fast.
Am I Samantha Bee? No, though I am a bit of a fan.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez being a bit shit? No surprise there. Populists gonna populist.
Bernie Sanders' strategist Tad Devine possibly being a Kremlin asset? I wonder if this will shake the faith of Bernie Sanders' supporters.
Millenial men being a bit shit? No surprise there either, given the existence of the alt-right (which does indeed have a lot of younger people though not all of them are young).
Disgusted, but not surprised
x3 Yes, once; Nikita Khrushchev, the Soviet Premier after Stalin, met with Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1959, and they toured the Country and talked Politics (he even wanted to go to the then 4-year old Disneyland, but was denied for security reasons). As far as I can tell, he was the only Soviet Primier to visit the US in ernest, but I know that Gorbachav did diplomatic missions in the US when he was Primier. I also believe that Yeltsin, Putin and Medvedev visited the US for diplomatic missions.
The difference between Khrushchev visiting in the late '50s and Putin visiting now, though, is that a)Putin's administration is getting aggressive and is threatening the US (Khrushchev didn't visit the US after the Cuban Missile Crisis, for instance), and b)the current President idolizes Putin too much and will not have serious conversations with him (neither Eisenhower nor Nixon would've supported ideas like putting the Premier's word above the FBI or CIA, and they wouldn't have supported 'popular sovereignty' in an area invaded by Russians for instance).

A bunch of people in the comments are saying this means that Sanders is dirty. Is that premature?
