Former wrestlers from Ohio State University are accusing Republican Representative Jim Jordan of knowingly ignoring sexual abuse allegations against the team doctor while Jordan was a coach there back in the late 80s and early 90s.

    Article
Rep. Jim Jordan, the powerful Republican congressman from Ohio, is being accused by former wrestlers he coached more than two decades ago at Ohio State University of failing to stop the team doctor from molesting them and other students.

The university announced in April that it was investigating accusations that Dr. Richard Strauss, who died in 2005, abused team members when he was the team doctor from the mid-1970s to late 1990s.

Jordan, who was assistant wrestling coach at the university from 1986 to 1994, has repeatedly said he knew nothing of the abuse until former students began speaking out this spring, and continued to deny it on Tuesday. His denials, however, have been met with skepticism and anger from some former members of the wrestling team.

Three former wrestlers told NBC News that it was common knowledge that Strauss showered regularly with the students and inappropriately touched them during appointments, and said it would have been impossible for Jordan to be unaware; one wrestler said he told Jordan directly about the abuse.

Former head coach Russ Hellickson, Jordan's mentor, said in a recent video — made by Mike Di Sabato, a former wrestler — that Hellickson had told Strauss that he was being too "hands on” with students.

Di Sabato, whose allegations against Strauss prompted Ohio State to open its investigation, called Jordan a “liar.”

“I considered Jim Jordan a friend,” Di Sabato said. “But at the end of the day, he is absolutely lying if he says he doesn’t know what was going on.”

Di Sabato said he reached out to Jordan this year, before going to the university, to tell Jordan that he planned to go public with his allegations. Jordan told him to “please leave me out of it,” Di Sabato said. “He asked me not to get him involved.”

"At the end of the day, he is absolutely lying if he says he doesn’t know what was going on.”

Dunyasha Yetts, who wrestled at Ohio State in 1993 and 1994, said he and others told Jordan about Strauss.

“I remember I had a thumb injury and went into Strauss’ office and he started pulling down my wrestling shorts,” he said. “I’m like, what the f—- are you doing? And I went out and told Russ and Jim what happened. I was not having it. They went in and talked to Strauss.”

Yetts said he and his teammates talked to Jordan numerous times about Strauss.

“For God’s sake, Strauss’s locker was right next to Jordan’s and Jordan even said he’d kill him if he tried anything with him,” Yetts said.

Yetts admitted that he did time for bilking investors out of nearly $2 million. “I am not a perfect person, but ask any of the wrestlers and they will tell you everybody knew about Doc,” said Yetts, who served 18 months in prison.

As for Jordan, Yetts said, “He’s a great guy. We would have all these great talks with him and he talked about how one day he’d be the president of the United States."

"So it’s sad for me to hear that he’s denying knowing about Strauss," he said. "I don’t know why he would, unless it’s a cover-up. Either you’re in on it, or you’re a liar.”

A former teammate of Di Sabato’s who asked not to be identified said he never told Jordan directly that Strauss had abused him. But there is no way Jordan could have avoided the rumors “because it was all over the locker room.”

“I love Jimmy to death,” the ex-wrestler said. “It was a head-scratcher to me why he would say he didn’t know anything. Doc used to take showers with the team even though he didn’t do any workouts, and everybody used to snicker about how you go into his office for a sore shoulder and he tells you to take your pants down.”

When the first stories about the university investigation appeared this spring, Jordan told The Columbus Dispatch, “I had not heard about any type of abuse at all.” He also said that “no one reported any type of abuse” to him.

After NBC News reached out to Jordan, the congressman’s spokesman repeated the denial.

“Congressman Jordan never saw any abuse, never heard about any abuse, and never had any abuse reported to him during his time as a coach at Ohio State,” his spokesman, Ian Fury, said in an email to NBC News.

After the NBC News story was published, Fury added the following statement: "He has not been contacted by investigators about the matter but will assist them in any way they ask, because if what is alleged is true, the victims deserve a full investigation and justice.”

Jordan, a founder of the House Freedom Caucus, a group of the most conservative representatives, is a staunch ally of President Donald Trump and is frequently mentioned as a possible replacement for the speaker of the House, Paul Ryan.

Di Sabato forwarded to NBC News an email he sent on April 24 to Jordan and the congressman’s brother, Jeff, who runs Jeff Jordan's State Champ Camp, a nationally known wrestling camp in Ohio. Di Sabato sent the email 19 days after Ohio State announced on April 5 that it was investigating Strauss and the administrators of the wrestling program at the time, including the coaches.

Di Sabato was concerned that the university would ultimately sweep his allegations under the rug, and he wanted to ensure that Jordan would back him up.

“I ask you to give your full attention to the information attached to this email,” Di Sabato wrote. “We [are] watching you. … You have the platform to cut through the double talk, placation and finger pointing.”

Jordan and his brother did not reply to the email, Di Sabato said. Jeff Jordan said in an email that he'd never attended or worked at Ohio State University.

The alt-right is The Corruption. They infiltrate the Democrats just as easily as the Republicans. Largely because being part of the Party is literally as easy as showing up.

So that's probably what happened to the RI Democrats: They got infiltrated.

Ok this is objectively false, I am not arguing that the Democrats are magically perfect or incapable of degenerating but saying that the alt-right can infiltrate the Democratic party just as easily the Republican party is ridiculously false to the point of offensiveness.

The party base is composed of minorities (especially black people) so the idea that it could just as easily be infiltrated as the Republican Party is simply farcical.

This didn't happen because the alt-right infiltrated anything, it happened because a local branch of the party was incredibly petty.

"So Walmart are in hot water right now and people are saying to boycott them because they're selling clothes with "Impeach 45" on it. What a bunch of whiny ninnies, it's not like it's saying to hurt or maim him. Were there any such "impeach Obama" shirts around back in the day? Because I certainly don't remember any major lid-flipping in response if there was."

Are there even enough people passionately supportive of Trump to sustain a boycott?

Considering that as far as I can tell their previous calls for boycott have all failed I think it's safe to assume that there aren't.

One of the most recent narratives being pushed by Russian Agitprop accounts, the "Walk Away Campaign", urging young Democrats to "walk away" from their party, got covered by Fox News, and to the ear of one particular Donald Trump.

Many Democrats are deeply concerned about the fact that their “leadership” wants to denounce and abandon the great men and women of ICE, thereby declaring war on Law & Order. These people will be voting for Republicans in November and, in many cases, joining the Republican Party!

Yeah I've been seeing that hashtag appear infrequently in the comments sections the last few days. It's never on-topic, mind you, so it's a sure bet it's being done by bots/Russian trolls.

Anyway, that's one of the most desperate hashtags I've ever seen. Even if we accept that these anecdotes are real (and that's a huge "if"- I wouldn't be surprised if many were flat out fabricated), why should I give a shit if somebody I don't know left the Democratic party for asinine reasons? I'm just supposed to follow the crowd like a lemming?

It's also the exact opposite of what the polls are saying: that more and more Republicans are leaving their party out of disgust.

So that should be an easy one to co-opt - just request that Republicans #WalkAway from their party over their having instituted such a needlessly-cruel policy.

Edit: About an hour ago, I stated on another forum that Trump might not be racist towards black people while still being xenophobic as hell. The announcement that they no longer want colleges to consider race as part of admissions makes me retract that statement.

What The Fuck Just Happened Today - Day 530: Shredded

1/ The Trump administration will rescind Obama-era guidelines that encourage college admissions to consider race as a factor in order to diversify their student bodies. Trump administration officials contend the current policies "mislead schools to believe that legal forms of affirmative action are simpler to achieve than the law allows." The reversal would restore George W. Bush's policy that "strongly encourages the use of race-neutral methods" for student admissions. Jeff Sessions said Justice Department prosecutors will investigate and sue universities over discriminatory admissions policies. Schools that don't follow the new policy could also lose federal funding. (Wall Street Journal / New York Times / Reuters)

2/ Leaked copies of Michael Cohen's shredded documents were reconstructed by the FBI and appear to confirm Cohen's $62,500 payment to a former Playboy model on behalf of Republican fundraiser Elliot Broidy. The documents were seized during a raid by the FBI on Cohen's home and office in April and include handwritten notes about a taxi business, as well as insurance papers, correspondence from a woman described as a "vexatious litigant," who claims she is under government surveillance, and other documents that prosecutors already had in their possession. 3/ Scott Pruitt and his aides kept "secret" calendars and schedules to hide controversial meetings and calls with industry representatives. Staffers routinely met in Pruitt's office to "scrub" records from Pruitt's calendar because they might "look bad." "We would have meetings [about] what we were going to take off on the official schedule," said Pruitt's former deputy chief of staff Kevin Chmielewski. "We had at one point three different schedules. One of them was one that no one else saw except three or four of us. It was a secret … and they would decide what to nix from the public calendar." (CNN)

4/ Two of Pruitt's top aides told congressional investigators that he leveraged his position for personal benefit and ignored warnings about potential ethical issues. The staffers testified to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee last week, sharing details about Pruitt's spending and management decisions, his efforts to secure a six-figure job for his wife at a conservative political group, enlisting aides to perform personal tasks, and seeking high-end travel despite objections and warnings from staffers. 5/ Trump threatened several NATO allies in June that they increase defense spending and meet their security obligation or face consequences. Trump hinted that one consequence could be an adjustment to the United States' military presence around the world. In his letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Trump warned that it would "become increasingly difficult to justify to American citizens why some countries do not share NATO's collective security burden while American soldiers continue to sacrifice their lives overseas or come home gravely wounded." 6/ Trump ordered American flags to be lowered to half-staff to honor the victims of last week's shooting at the Capital Gazette newsroom, after initially denying the request last week. If it is no holds barred against Trump then there is a Youtube channel called Ring of Fire who daily tears into him on a scale Stephen Colbert could only dream of. Below is a video where Trump praises himself for his actions in North Korea, who are currently escalating their nuclear capabilities.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrKaLP7V08Q

Now why would the Troll King think it's great to instigate conflict and push a unstable dictator who has shown to be the saner of the two to push their nuclear weapons program? He cannot be that stupid to believe he prevented war, the only answer I can come up with is Trump genuinely saw getting away with bullying a madman and instigating a psychotic towards nuclear war as a good thing.

US. Chamber of Commerce launches anti-tariff campaign.

They're not the only ones, a bunch of Koch brothers groups have been speaking up against tariffs quietly for months, and recently launched a multi-million dollar add campaign against the tariffs.

Some various news tidbits I'm watching:

A public interest group sued the state of Michigan for its amazingly shitty schools and neglect of students. A judge responded by ruling that there is no fundamental right to literacy or access to it

Strict constitutionalism at its best. If you read the link description and immediately guessed Federalist society member appointed by a Republican, step up to claim your prize.

Alex Jones warned his fans that Liberals were going to launch a Second American Civil War on the 4th. It is now a subject of widespread mockery on social media, with people writing stories of their experiences in the war

I highly recommend reading these stories to give yourself a few laughs.

Signs of a generational divide among Democratic politicians: Krysten Sinema, Democratic Senate candidate in Arizona who holds a sizable lead over all her potential Republican opponents, has indicated she would not support Schumer to remain Senate leader for Democrats

This follows a number of Democrats either playing coy about or outright refusing to endorse Pelosi keep her leadership position. (Sinema herself voted against Pelosi staying in House leadership in 2016.)
