Federal Judge rules against the Trump policy regarding asylum seekers.
Well, this explains why Trump is so adamant about this.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Abortion rights specifically also offer an example of how to fight these issues outside of the Supreme Court itself. 21 states have pre-viability bans (ie. "heartbeat bans;" some blocked by courts but still on the books), and 4 states with trigger bans (doctors that perform abortions immediately becomes felons upon Roe v. Wade being overturned). And they're not necessarily all deep Republican states either; Illinois has one the books, and a Republican governor right now (up for reelection).
To address those would require taking control of those state legislatures and governors.

Still one thing I'm confident of is that the Republicans will inevitably hang themselves by appointing some extremist who will turn the public against the court and thus in favor of a hypothetical Democratic congress modifying it for the betterment of all. It's not inevitable but if I were a betting man I would certainly bet in-favor of it.

And? That's not a problem. Some people will side with anything, if we have the general public as a whole (which we likely would when the Supreme Court shuts down popular legislation or repeals popular rights) then the opinions of a minority are irrelevant.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangIf this was true, 2016 wouldnt have happened.
They appointed a rapist, who ran on a platform of sexism, racism, and fuck the poor for president.... and enough people till voted for them that they got him elected.
They are literaly defending Nazis, and still being elected.
The republician party is not going to be turned on, and the sooner we get that through our heads, the sooner we can start working on actual soultions.
I know it is nice and re-assuring to think "people cant really be that bad" but the truth is, nearly half of Amercia is just that bad... and hiding from it, trying to pretend it isn't true, or justifying it doesn't help... or make it go away.

This is nonsense.
The fact that Trump barely won does not mean that the Supreme Court can stop popular legislation or repeal well liked rights without public push back, the fact that their cultists won't change their minds is irrelevant to my point which would frankly should be obvious.
The general public turning against something obviously does not include the Republican voters (who FYI are less then 40% of the popualtion).

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangThing is, though, back in 2016 I remember there being a whole host of reasons why people were voting (erroneously) for Trump. Most of them having to do with the irrational hatred a lot of people were harbouring for Hillary, coupled with a lack of belief in political insiders, Trump pretending to care about LGBT folk (he did actually claim to care more about gay people than Hillary, but sadly I haven't got any links, this is just from memory), and Trump just generally being very good at making unrealistic promises. If there's one thing populist politicians are good at, it's making unrealistic promises.
If Trump had run solely on a platform of white supremacy and misogyny, I guarantee there's no way he'd have gotten even a fraction of the votes he got. Hell, didn't it become a cliche for Trump voters around the election and immediately afterwards to be constantly saying 'but he's not really racist/sexist/homophobic, you just don't understand him!'
However, almost halfway through his first term, I'd like to think that his true colours have been revealed; maybe my memory is faulty, but I've seen it referenced numerous times - in this thread, even - that Trump's support base and the Republicans' in general has been steadily shrinking ever since the election, probably because everyone sane who voted for him have realized that they had been conned, leaving only the diehard loyalists and the Trump fan club - and given how the latter two groups make up less than 40% of the population, it becomes apparent that he needed the few sane voters on his side to just barely etch out a win.

Those sell-by-dates won't stop me because I can't read!![]()
The turn takes time, non-incumbent Republicans haven’t won the popular vote since 1988, hell incumbent Republicans have lost it as often as they’ve won it in that timeframe.
Yes Republican cultists represent a large chunk of the American population, a solid 30-40%, but that’s massive progress, Regan won 58% of votes when he ran for re-election.
They’re digging the pit, we can’t get complacent about it but they are doing it, look what it took for them to win in 2016, they’re agenda is dying, not fast enough but it is dying and their radicalisation isn’t helping them.

"Grab them by the pussy"
Encouraging violence at his rallies.
Calling Mexicans rapists and murderers.
Sexually assaulting a 13 year old girl, and then having his supporters harass her into dropping the charges.
All of those were BEFORE the election, he never hid it he wore it on his sleeves.... people weren't miss lead at all, there is no way they can claim ignorance.
2016 is when the general public proved how it felt, and today is just us finaly feeling the "reward"
What it took for them to win in 2016? They ran some one who did all of the above, agianst a well qualified person with years of experiance.... and still won. It took them zero effort.
And even if it was true that things are shifting against them, the problem is it is too late we can still go vote, but the damage is done at this point.
Even Jhon Oliver who tries to be optimistic had a segment about it

You are seriously underestimating how ignorant people can be. Seriously, to a lot of people “Grab them by the pussy" wasn’t a confession of sexual assault but just Trump being crass, combine that with Fox claiming that sexual assault alegations were a liberal smear and there are genuinely people who think it’s all lies, yes they’re wilfully ignorant and deserve no sympathy, but stop pretending they sat at home cackling evily about how awesome it was to have voted for a rapist.
The general public voted for Hillary Clinton, not by enough to matter, not by enough to be anywhere near a sane result, but they did, that’s a huge improvement over 58% of people voting for Regan.
They ran someone who huge brand recognition, with the biggest progoganda machine in the western world on their side, with a media establishment desperate to serve him, they ran a political unknown against someone they’d been waging a campaign against for nearly 40 years, they ran with the voting rights act gone, with foreign interferance and with the head of the FBI illegally acting to throw the election in their favour.
That’s not zero effort, that’s a hell of a lot of effort, and they still couldn’t win the popular vote.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranJust to clarify, when I earlier said 'everyone sane who voted for [Trump]', I obviously use the term 'sane' loosely, given the level of wilful ignorance they'd need to have demonstrated in order to focus solely on his unrealistic political promises. Having said this, I think if you went up to a remorseful ex-Trump voter and said they were insane to have voted for him, they'd probably agree with you. :V

Those sell-by-dates won't stop me because I can't read!Fair, I will conceded that it is still better then Regan, but I do not see how in any way that could be taken as Trump just being Crass.... and at that point if they are "Ignorant" it is still malicious, at a certain point stupidity quits being a defense.
But I can not say that Trump was all that much of an effort for the republicans to win with, they may have soured the public to Hillary, but the public was also pretty sour to Trump himself before his run... and the Russian Interference consisted of grabbing the voter rolls, then laser targeting fake news at those already per-disposed to believing it.... it didn't change peoples opinions it just re-enforced existing ones and provided motivation.
Though you are also correct about the FBI.... and I do wish there was some course of action that could be taken on that front, because as you said that was illegal. :/
It’s easy, if you don’t understand the idea of consent and sexual pressuring properly (and a lot of older people don’t) than Trump comes across as just saying that women are up for sex with him because he’s famous. “They let you do it when you’re a star” is taken to mean “they want you to do it and consent to it” instead of “they don’t fight back because they’re afraid of you and know you have power over them”.
If you think of women as desperate sluts who try to sleep with famous people for money it all fits together disturbingly well.
Not as sour as they should have been, CNN basicly won Trump the primary and then they and other cable news networks devoted themselves to ranting about Hillary’s emails so as to try and appear ‘fair’.
Sure but it was part of an information encirclement. Russia basicly set the internet aflame with Hillary Clinton hate, cable news did the same with TV networks, Republicans in Congress has been doing it for years in the political arena and they got help from the unicorn brigade and Jill Stein (who also ties back into Russia).
One avenue of information attack doesn’t change a person’s opinion, but four avenues, that can sway a person.

The interaction between the American right and Russian influence campaigns is actually interesting.
Things like Fox News and Breitbart are more often then not being pushed by Russian Social Media accounts
, and renforce each other's narratives.

So it's being reported (originally by Axios) that the Trump administration is drafting a proposal to all-but abandon WTO standards
.
The problem? The draft is called "the United States Fair and Reciprocal Tariff Act" - aka, the US FART Act. I genuinely pity the poor bastards over at The Onion - reality has legitimately outdone anything they could concoct.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"
In (slightly) fresher/undiscussed news, then... Richard Painter - the ethics lawyer under George W. Bush from 2005 - 2007 - came up with an interesting idea. Pointing at the fact that Kennedy had already hired interns for the October season already, he's suggesting that the circumstances of his retirement should be investigated for a possibility of a payoff
(whether to him or via his son), and a nomination be postponed until the investigation's completion.
That idea may genuinely be our best bet.

Kayne notably defended Trump by saying, "He wasn't saying you can take it, he's saying they'll give it."
But Trump is a rapist. Not an accused one. There have been many charges to that effect and he's hushed it all up like he does his other crimes—badly. Trump and too many other people have also taken part in Epstein's human trafficking and underage prostitution (which is what THEY call it since the women are very often unable to give consent).

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Frankly, there is no excuse for having cast a vote for Trump. NONE. There is barely an excuse for not doing whatever necessary to keep him from office, even if that meant voting for Hillary. It was obvious what Trump was, it was obvious what he would do as soon as he was in office and it was obvious that whatever problem one might have with Hillary (and frankly, I do think that for a lot of people her gender was one of them, weather they admit it or not), she would still be a better president than Trump is.

The overturning of Roe could easily be a big enough issue to allow that, if not than either the reversal of gay marriage of the reintroduction of laws criminalising sodomy might do it.
