Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The problem with the argument of empowering "Both sides" is that the opposition lies about what the Democrats do and acts like they're traitors anyway.
So we should act in a decisive manner against criminal activity.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. Why is impeaching a Supreme Court justice so difficult, anyway? What would make it dangerous for a Democratic Congress to, say, impeach Trump's picks and stonewall any future ones (the way Mc Connell blocked Garland)?
5 dead, several 'gravely' wounded in shooting at Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis: Officials.
Sean Hannity Blames Maxine Waters For Capital Gazette Shooting.
Fucking hell...
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Trump's people have committed more acts of treason.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. It can't be a coincidence that this is happening right after Milo Yiannopoulos started going on about wanting vigilantes to start murdering journalists.
As much as I really hope it is because I'd like to believe people aren't that damn stupid.
I get that. But obviously he can't publicly admit that due to the inevitable... inconveniences it would cause him, right? So he has to hide behind some excuse that would make him pass for a good, law-abiding citizen.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. With this shooting, I give it 90% odds that it was a disgruntled (ex-)employee, and 10% chance of someone buying into the "FAKE NEWS!" rhetoric. If it had been one of the major television affiliates, I'd bump that up to 50/50, but not so much with print news (outside of the NY Times, anyway).

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"This is gonna be sweet.
I wouldn't get your hopes up. So far, the investigation has produced more wild speculation about who's going to be wearing the cuffs next than actual arrests against key figures of the Trump administration. Manafort and Flynn remain the only high-profile Trump insiders actually arrested.
If Mueller's preparing to wrap up his investigation, that does not inspire hope that it's actually going to go much further than them.
Odds are, we'll score a conviction against Manafort and that'll be the end of it. The official story will be that the Trump team attempted to collude but were stymied at every turn, and wound up being hapless beneficiaries of the election meddling rather than willful participants. This will be utter bullshit, but since Republicans control the entire government and the most watched news network in America, it will be accepted as the One True Narrative.
Trump will then crow about how the "WITCH HUNT" was finally defeated and how this is a triumphant victory against "FAKE NEWS MEDIA" and the Dems, while the Unicorn Brigade starts doomsaying about how all hope is lost and we need to install a leftist dictator.
And then, as insult to injury, Trump might just go and pardon Flynn and Manafort. 50/50 on that one.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.@Raptorslash: See the funny thing is that while the bill didn't go through, it was essential at the cost of letting FDR win battle. The threat of it caused the switch in time that saved nine causing public support of the court packing to dwindle.

You do realize that there are around 150 sealed subpoenas in the investigation and that Trump's personal lawyer and former vice chair of the Republican party Micheal Cohen has been arrested and might have turned states evidence, right?

I see the standard issue "thoughts and prayers" care package has been deployed in the latest shooting.
And somehow, according to Faux, its all the Democrats fault. Because if they weren't fighting back, the far-right wouldn't have to lash out violently.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
