Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

There are a bunch of Christians who are on the left, they're just often minorities and thus don't get any media attention.
Both Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama were devout Christians, they just weren't theocratic fucks and thus it wasn't as obvious.

I mean, I still have to go saying "I am a Christian but-", is annoying.
They could still use their Underdog status to keep their dignity. Afterall, Pagans arent a unified group unlike Christians that have to share some common ideas
Reading the word Evangelical in the USA context is so weird, in Peru, while they definitely have issues, they arent more racist than the rest of the population. For now.
Albeit. I am Catholic, so is another can of worms...
Im not as Leftist as I should be.

Watch me destroying my countryEven in the US black evangelicalism are a very different group then white evangelicals (i.e they're actually decent), though of course their power is completely limited so when we insult evangelicals we're always talking about the horrid right-wing white evangelicals.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangI know, is just that the terms are so weird. Albeit, I wonder how someone from a relatively non bigoted Evangelical family would feel with all those discussions.
Watch me destroying my country@Dr Dougsh: It's not alt-right, so much. There's always been a subset of pagans who have identified Norse/Germanic paganism with Aryan/Nordic racial identity - that goes back to Himmler, actually. That connection is old school Nazism.
(I've never heard of more Goddess-aligned religions being associated with any kind of hate movements except a few TERFs, probably because other kinds of hate tend to hate women.)

Personally I understand that since they aren't bigoted they're a minority and that the majority is awful, thus I'm not at-all bothered by these kinds of talks.
Though of course the fact that I'm not an evangelical almost certainly has something to do with it.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangThere are still some far right movements that identify as pagan, though maybe not so much in America. I think Anders Breivik did (though he's been contradictory about this). Then there's idiot movements like the Sons of Odin, who are such patriots that they print their shirts in English rather than an actual Nordic language.

Right. My point is, identifying this movement with the alt-right is kind of incorrect - it's been around way longer. Anders Breivik is an old-school neo-Nazi, not an altrighter.

Trump is as close to a anti-Christian candidate as you could possibly run. His worship of greed, misogyny, adultery, materialism, egocentrism, and cruelty is virtually every position he takes. His Christianity is also never mentioned until the election with many people having confirmed he's an atheist before then.
And they voted over him vs. the church going Methodist woman.
It's....infuriating.
Now I know how God felt everytime Israel betrayed him.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. That's the big issue we'll find out in 14 days.
Why 14 days?
In 14 days, that's when the first part of the cash from the Facebook fund will go to the RAICES group and they plan to pay the bail for over 1000 of the families which have been separated, to reunite them.
There's a lot of fear the Trump administration won't let them go.

I want the pagans to win this and get them to force the Christians to move to the left.
I really want it.
