Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Goddamn, Hillary deserves to be retconned into being the real 45th POTUS, just on that one Tweet alone.
And of course people will spin this as her being bitter. Even if she is, when the people who gave her crap about the emails did literally the same thing, she has every right to be incredibly bitter. Trumpy likes to go off on his persecution complex induced rants about how there is a witch hunt out to get him, but it becomes more and more blatantly clear that if anything, there was a longstanding witch hunt against HRC.
Don't catch you slippin' now.
x5 I'd have gone "but his emails" to make it a "proper" Ironic Echo, but that's still pretty good.
Some very local news. The Massachusetts state Senate just unanimously passed a agressive clean energy bill, after a lengthy debate on amendments. It's actually pretty cool. It literally just happened, so I don't have any press release yet, but here's the state's website
So did people know Trump is being sued by New York for stealing money from his own children's cancer charities?
The lawsuit, which seeks to dissolve the foundation and bar President Trump and three of his children from serving on nonprofit organizations, was an extraordinary rebuke of a sitting president. The attorney general also sent referral letters to the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Election Commission for possible further action, adding to Mr. Trump’s extensive legal challenges.
The lawsuit, filed in State Supreme Court in Manhattan, culminated a nearly two-year investigation of Mr. Trump’s charity, which became a subject of scrutiny during and after the 2016 presidential campaign. While such foundations are supposed to be devoted to charitable activities, the petition asserts that Mr. Trump’s was often improperly used to settle legal claims against his various businesses, even spending $10,000 on a portrait of Mr. Trump that was hung at one of his golf clubs.
The foundation was also used to curry political favor, the lawsuit asserts. During the 2016 race, the foundation became a virtual arm of Mr. Trump’s campaign, email traffic showed, with his campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, directing its expenditures, even though such foundations are explicitly prohibited from political activities.

Watch me destroying my countryI mean, Trump stealing from children suffering from cancer was already something that was suspected a couple years back. This suit just means that they think they've finally gotten enough evidence to make a case.
Shit like that was actually one of the reasons I started thinking about changing my sig to what it is now. When I first heard it, I realized that as disgusted as it made me feel...I wasn't actually shocked at the idea that Trump would do this.

Disgusted, but not surprised@ Karkat: Warren Harding was a terrible president, but he doesn't seem nearly as nasty a person as Donald Trump. The only bad thing on his personal character that sticks out is his constant adultery, including a mistress in her 20s when he was in his 50s...though I suppose that's more ethical than Jefferson's relationship with Sally Hemings or a strong possibility Grover Cleveland raped Maria Halpen along with putting her into an asylum

So in a “you’re fucking kidding me!” moment for everyone, I just discovered some more info from the DOJ internal report. When Comey was investigating Hillary he did some some improper practices, while he’s been cleared of major things one item did come up.
He used a personal email account to conduct official FBI business.
