Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

...The "yet" part concerns me. Is there like a hard limit I'm about to hit? Because I'd hate to be banned from In-N-Out. One of my favorite things to do is to go to the closest In-N-Out, order two Double-Doubles, a mountain of fries, And a Diet Coke.
Five guys is better. I’m totally not biased. They didn’t start near me.

It makes sense to be critical of your birthplace and home, in that you want to make it better and are acutely aware of its flaws.
Oh, we know the reason why Trump cancelled the Eagles visit; only one player was committed to attending.
Hopefully the winners in the NBA and NHL do the same.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I love Five Guys. I tried to order from them, though, but they couldn't do it for some reason :(
Still, I love going to their place for a bite. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow...

You're comparing apples and oranges though. Der Weinerschnitzel specializes in hot dogs. In-N-Out is all about burgers and fries.
Though TBH, I've always wanted to try it. I used to want to try Chik-Fil-A too, but I feel really uncomfortable about spending money there given its opposition to same-sex marriage.

Disgusted, but not surprisedSpeaking as another local, In-n-Out is overrated. Don't get me wrong, it's still really good, yet it's still massively overhyped. Now, the real winner is The Habit.
Anyways, since I'm in the 39th, we've ended up being a major focal point due to the competitive primary over the open seat, as well as the recall attempt to take away the Dem supermajority in the state legislature. Hopefully things work out for the better, but it'll probably be awhile before results are finalized, especially due to mailed ballots.

Enough about American fast food; this is about American Politics... So let's talk about Coffee instead.
People are speculating that former CEO of Starbucks, Howard Schultz, might intend to run for President in 2020
. He did say after retiring (literally yesterday) that he might run for public office.
I know this is just speculation, and nothing is set in stone, but I always find this speculation fun to speculate on. I don't know if I'd want him to run, though, because he's just as inexperienced as Oprah, Bob Iger and Trump are, and we need a Politician to run and beat Trump, not another Businessman/Hollywood star with no Political Experience.
This is one sort of nonsense that having prior officeholding requirements before running for the presidency would prevent: a businessman treating a presidential campaign as a publicity stunt.
Also, Starbucks coffee uniformly tastes vile. As a proud New Englander, Dunkin Donuts coffee is the only choice.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Got a slogan for him- "A Starbucks on Every Street".
Oh wait, we already have that...
I like Starbucks' various sweet drinks and have almost always had great service. But they aren't my first choice for drinking coffee either in-store or as pods. That's Illy or Pete's. And I like Tim Horton's pods a lot too. Never been to a physical store though.
Seriously though/ on-topic, I've heard vaguely positive things about the guy, but we really don't need more billionaire candidates. Especially I think Democratic ones given the whole "neoliberal" boogeyman.

Also, in good news, the California Primaries so far have shown no lock out for Democrats; every Republican District has a Democrat contender following (mostly kind of far) behind. However, it appears that Republicans will definitely be blocked out of the Senate Race; Feinstein is looking to be challenged by fellow Democrat, Kevin de Leon.
On topic, Feinstein's one of those politicians everyone has a Hillary level hate boner for, right? Will that hurt her chances?

And don't worry about your negativity, we're not banning you from the In-n-Outs just yet.
