Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I wouldn't advise it. I'm pretty sure this would have links to Russian Intelligence, and is probably best to stay away from.
But if you must, at least make sure you are using a Burner Email.
And they are already up to crap

It's satire. Hard to tell these days though, considering that we just had a headline where North Korea might install a burger joint instead of denuclearization.

That's a joke on The Good Fight.
Diane has started using drugs to sleep which have hallucinations as side-effects. She has dreams where Trump adopts a pot-bellied pig and appoints Kayne Secretary of Information. The problem is that it's mixed with real life stories and almost loses her job because she no longer can tell truth from reality.
Because the truth has become so ridiculous it's hard to sort out.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. The fact that Russia is stepping up it's information Warfare against the US this close the midterms, is incredibly concerning. They want to meddle in our elections again, and we can't do anything about it!

Well, there's only really so many things you can do about something like that.
For starters, you can't really make the public any less gullible. You can try and educate, but there's an unfortunate limit to the amount you can inoculate people against misinformation. Kind of like the crazification factor [1]
a percentage of the population will just fall for that shit every time.
From the other end, it's also hard to stop the Russians from making websites. We can conduct limited cyberwarfare against them, disable their intelligence operations (to an extent, Russians are known for their tradecraft) or take apart botnets. Ultimately we can't literally prevent them from distributing this stuff, though.
For something like that, you kind of just have to take it as it is. It's worrying, but a foreign adversary operating an anti-US news site is nothing new. At this point we need to hope the deep state is doing its damn job and then vote Trump out ASAP.
They should have sent a poet.
x4 It's still an issue, and an even more brazen attempt to influence our elections.
Trump has given the green light for the Kremlin to go all out, by showing that there wouldn't be any serious consequences for meddling in our and our allies' elections, and that's exactly what they are doing.

I'm just not sure this is an issue worth undue concern over. It's the lowest possible grade of foreign interference, and particularly now when there's actual foreign interference going on it's not worth the attention.
Something like that isn't even worth a look from CI, it's basically an international nuisance.

They should have sent a poet.I disagree given the use of social media actually did influence the election and in a not-inconsiderable way.
Putin doesn't have an immediate successor but he does have a large collection of cronies. I'm fairly sure the next election will just be as fraudulent as the last and the one before it.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Uh, a bit late but the Beaverton is blatantly a Canadian version of the Onion...
That said, American beer is like having sex in a canoe.
x4 Most likely a behind-the-scenes power struggle where the person with the greatest connections becomes the next President. That tends to be what happens in Russian Politics, although this time around there will almost certainly be less bloodshed (instead of massive purges in the Czarist and Communist Regimes, there will probably only be a few murders and a lot of arrests).

x4. hopefully this won't gain too much traction, but it's still something we should keep an eye on.
Can we talk about how trump's most recent Trade Wars and Isolationism is basically only benefiting one person, Vladmir Putin?
I mean, weakening Trans-Atlantic Ties, turning our allies against us, stregnthening Russia's relationship to China, and getting us out of the Middle East, and generally bringing the US to it's knees is Putin's Wet Dream.

Russia is stepping up it's information Warfare yet again, and we can't do anything to counter it until Cheeto is out. [1]
Here's the websites description in their own words. Any of it sound familiar?
In this regard, US citizens cannot receive objective and independent information about events occurring on the territory of America and throughout the world. The information flow coming from the US and its allies, which is aimed at discrediting the Russian Federation, should not remain unanswered by the Russian media.
The Federal News Agency (FAN) is not going to put up with the hegemony of the US authorities in the information field and announces the launch of the project "Wake up, America!".
In May 2018, the information agency "USA Really. Wake Up Americans" will start its operations, it will focus on promoting information and problems that are hushed up by major American publications controlled by the US political elite.
We invite English-speaking journalists and authors to work on the project — send your C Vs to america@riafan.ru with the subject "Wake up, America".
