Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I don't really have much feelings toward that word, except thinking It being a stronger insult than most seems pretty arbitrary, but I guess that's language.
I'm reminded of Bill Maher referring to Sarah Palin with it. Of course,he's a man, and one that I think has a reputation as a pig to begin with, so probably not the best comparison.

We learn from history that we do not learn from historyIt's also Separated by a Common Language - in Australia, for example, it's a fairly generic insult for all sorts of cunts.
Yeah, Bee's joke was flat but I don't think it was any kind of -ist. It was just mocking Ivanka and doing it poorly.

Yeah, but technically both are words for genitals - and there are some areas where Country Matters isn't as much of an issue (heck, some areas have it being used as almost a term of endearment).
Though in my opinion calling someone a dick is actually more evocative - because they're acting like the equivalent of somebody swinging theirs around in public.

We learn from history that we do not learn from historyCountry Matters probably needs to be really justified to avoid being taken the wrong way. I'm not so sure about Ivanka; she's just a Dumb Blonde just like the rest of her family. In this field, more blatant examples like Ann Coulter or Kelly-Anne Conway are more effective.
ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.And how is "just like the rest of her family" not ample justification for literally any insult?
"It's okay, she's just like Donald Trump only moderates think she's not as bad (even though she isn't a lick better)."
The gist of it is that she, probably more than any other human being, genuinely has Trump's ear. If she wanted him to be doing something good, she actually could conceivably do so. Instead, she just is as bad as him. Like a cunt. I'm also happy calling Trump the same, though again it's an Insult to Rocks.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Honestly the idea that she was ever moderate or going to hold him back was nothing more than wishful thinking driven by the fact that unlike him she's at-least pretty. It was always a pathetic delusion.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangHope is never useless. Even if it just means that people die optimistically, believing there's a way out, it's better than dying in misery, despair, and hopelessness.
Me, personally, I'd rather have the snake oil than be told, "You're f*cked. We aren't even going to try anything else. Just go die already and stop wasting our time with these frivolous attempts at living."
A 1% chance is better than 0%.
I mean, you're dying. It's got to go somewhere. I'd rather dead people's money return to the economy in the form of being spent than hang around in billion-dollar trust funds forever.
What a dying person wants to spend his money on shouldn't be your problem. Programs to ensure that dead people's money stays safely out of government hands and out of the marketplace should be.
I don't really see the problem with this. Even if it just means some people get to die with peace of mind, pointlessly chasing false dreams and flooding the marketplace with what would otherwise have been their estate savings, that still seems more like a feature than a bug.
Me, personally, I want death to be a surprise. I never want to have to live in fear of the absolute unyielding certainty that I will die and that nobody can be arsed to help me do anything about it. I want to fight the inevitable to my literal dying breath.

Yes and if the only person funding this is the dying person then you might be right, but I don't know why you would assume this.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangUntil such a time as state-sponsored health insurance is being reasonably provided, the family not being able to afford medical treatment is going to be a problem with or without snake oil.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Except there is a demonstrable difference between the family spending money on things that can actually help and that which cannot, I see no actual benefit to allowing people to buy snake oil medicine and the fact that the rest of our system is so terrible is not a ringing endorsement of that position.

Why is trump pardoning Illinois D governor? Is he actively trying to make Illinois solid blue.
