Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

A report by Harvard University has concluded that ~4,600 people in Puerto Rico died as a result of Hurricane Maria. This is over 70 times the official government toll.

Oh, and the brewing trade dispute with China just got a lot nastier, with a 25% tariff being levied on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods.

Wonder how Ross will try and explain this to Beijing?

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Speaking of Puerto Rico, does anyone have any ideas for how Territories could be represented nationally, and generally handled more effectively?
As it stands now, territories don't have a any representives in the federal government, in exchange for more autonomy.

Trump's administration feels like a total slog because we're adults throughout all of it. People our generation didn't get a true, complete appreciation for how terrible Bush was until around 2004. With Trump, that feeling permeates everything.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."My god, he's on a twitter rampage this morning.
We have put a great team together for our talks with North Korea. Meetings are currently taking place concerning Summit, and more. Kim Young Chol, the Vice Chairman of North Korea, heading now to New York. Solid response to my letter, thank you!
“This investigation involved far more surveillance than we ever had any idea about. It wasn’t just a wiretap against a campaign aide...it was secretly gathering information on the Trump Campaign...people call that Spying...this is unprecedented and scandalous.” Mollie Hemingway
The 13 Angry Democrats (plus people who worked 8 years for Obama) working on the rigged Russia Witch Hunt, will be MEDDLING with the mid-term elections, especially now that Republicans (stay tough!) are taking the lead in Polls. There was no Collusion, except by the Democrats!
Why aren’t the 13 Angry and heavily conflicted Democrats investigating the totally Crooked Campaign of totally Crooked Hillary Clinton. It’s a Rigged Witch Hunt, that’s why! Ask them if they enjoyed her after election celebration!
The Fake Mainstream Media has, from the time I announced I was running for President, run the most highly sophisticated & dishonest Disinformation Campaign in the history of politics. No matter how well WE do, they find fault. But the forgotten men & women WON, I’m President!
For comparisons sake, here's a selection of tweets from @Nice Donald Trump, who is intelligent, well spoken, a good husband, and a bird enthusiast, (everything the real one isn't), so we can pretend to have a nice, well adjusted president, at least for a bit.
If the US withdraws from the multilateral JPCOA, Iran is legally free to restart its drive to develop nuclear weapons. And they will. Why would I want that? Why would I torpedo a chance to restrict Iran's nuclear capability? Simply because it was signed by my predecessor?

The best Polynesian-themed taco trios are from Tiki Taco on P Street. I love them! And also my Mel ♥ .

Wonderful example of a Carolina Chickadee home in our North Lawn nest box this morning. Lots of moss, leaves, grass, old cocoons and feathers make for a comfy place for a brood to grow.

If you own a Netgear, Mikrotek, Linksys, QNAP, or TP-Link router, perform a simple reboot of it as soon as possible. Our FBI says that up to a half million consumer routers are likely infected with a nefarious new malware - and a reboot will fix it.

Who’s going to give back the young and beautiful lives (and others) that have been devastated and destroyed by the phony war with Iraq? They journeyed down to recruiting offices with stars in their eyes and wanting to help our nation...They went back home in coffins! #Memorial Day

Lovely to see the Goldfinches sporting their summer plumage again. Their bright hue and cheeky song never fail to lift my spirits.

Too many who served with me at Khe Sanh never made it back; I think of them often and quietly weep. We must remember our war dead not just today, but every day - they sacrificed their lives so that we can remain free. Cherish and exercise your rights in their memory. 🇺🇸

Trump's witch hunt rants and so forth have been successful in gradually eroding Republicans' support for Mueller.

Since Roseanne's putrid show was mentioned earlier re: politics, this story broke this morning:
Roseanne Barr's not a racist, they said.
And I laughed, and I laughed, and I laughed.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Oh, hurrah! What a delightful way to start the week.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."I'm legitimately surprised the show was cancelled over that. I wonder who's going to pick it up. Fox, mayhap?
By all rights, despite Barr being filth, the show was relatively restrained. I can only imagine that when another network picks it up she'll drop that and be complaining overtly. This might be a Monkey's Paw cancellation.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.

He's also probably the most Tysonic. Whether that's for the better or worse depends on your mileage and/or the given rumor's proximity to Russia.
