Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

...I honestly don't know who he's referring to here.
He's referring to people like Mike Flynn and Paul Manafort.
Remember: Trump isn't just denying his own personal collusion with Russia. His line from the beginning of the investigation is that Russian meddling in 2016 never happened. None of it. Not one bit. At no point was Russia ever involved in the election, not even in the tiniest way.
That's where Trump gets his "Witch Hunt" rhetoric from: in his mind, each and every person indicted in the investigation is being falsely accused of a made-up crime that the Democrats are trying to use to discredit his incredible 2016 electoral victory. He's convinced that, from Day 1 of the investigation before Mueller was even brought onboard, this has all just been a sour grapes conspiracy led by Clinton and Obama to tear him down.

I like this as well
[1]
“It is for public opinion,” Giuliani said of his public campaign of dissimulation. “Because eventually the decision here is going to be impeach or not impeach. Members of Congress, Democrats and Republicans, are going to be informed a lot by their constituents. And so our jury – and it should be – is the American people."
“So Republicans largely, many independents, even some Democrats now question the legitimacy of [the Mueller investigation],” Giuliani said. “Democrats I would suggest for their own self-interest, this is not a good issue to go into the midterms.”
More obstruction of justice from this President. Both Mueller and the Democrats are getting a lot of help in impeaching this guy, especially from Giuliani, who is the gift that keeps on giving.
Trump has repeatedly called the special counsel’s work a “witch hunt”, despite its producing five guilty pleas, including by three former Trump aides, and evidence of Russian tampering in US elections.

Sometimes I wonder what must be going through Robert Mueller's head thdkugh all of this. These people are just so dumb.

No that's what Trump will be saying when he gets impeached. The Angrish he'll spew when Muller presents his case will be slightly less coherent than that

What if Trump had Terminal 7?
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Giuliani is a sort of Deep Cover Agent?
Something I've noticed - in some articles Trump has been compared to Huey Long.
I'd like to point out that Huey at least gave a shit about people's well-being, and largely stuck to his promises.
Also, Huey was a brilliant orator and had many endearing traits. Meanwhile, the less said about Trump's speeches and his Jerkass personality, the better.

Man Rudi is realy towing the line, if he keeps this up I’m wondering if he could be charged with obstruction of justice.
Just because Trump (probably) can’t be charged criminally doesn’t mean others can’t, Rudi, Ivanka, Jared, Nunes, Cohen, Mc Connal, ect...
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranCould McConnell be charged with Obstruction? I always thought he was too removed from the inner circle to get caught in the web outside of Guilt by Association

X3 Nothing he’s done seems to be cross the line to me, his biggest act of interference was blocking Obama from revealing that Trump was being investigated before the election.
Here’s the thing, he’s by far the smartest one around and when he was allowed to see some of Muller’s evidence he said that the investigation must be allowed to continue, I’m wondering if he saw that Muller has enough to charge anyone who shuts him down with obstruction, thus his opposition to shutting down Muller.

Care to quote it? It sounds like the UK’s parliamentary privillage, which doesn’t cover activities outside of the debate chamber.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranIs it unintentional? At this point, Giuliani is either playing some ridiculously long, brilliant game that we can't see or is the stupidest lawyer in the US. That, or he's sabotaging Trump in revenge for the way he was treated during the transition.
The sheer amount of information and the frequency and consistency with which he's doing this doesn't make it look unintentional. It looks like a deliberate tactic. The only thing I can think of as a tactic would be an information bombardment campaign to both lessen any potential value of any findings Mueller may eventually reveal (a 'see Mueller didn't find anything we didn't already know, what a waste of money' end-game) and to so attack the public's mind with information, contradiction and misinformation that it becomes a political reinvention of that torture concept where a person is deprived of any sensory input then suddenly all their senses at once are bombarded to disorient and confuse: the public becomes so deadened and confused about the Russia subject that the nation switches off from it just enough for the midterms (and 2020) to turn back to ordinary political issues just to escape it.
Judging by his unsubtle threat towards the Democrats about not using this subject in the midterms, it sounds like an information bombardment campaign.
I mean, put it this way: there was a lot of talk when Trump first hired Giuliani about how well Giuliani knows Mueller and therefore if anyone can figure out Mueller, it's Giuliani. What nobody seemed to be pointing out was this works both ways: it means Mueller is equally familiar with Giuliani and how to handle him. Judging by what Giuliani is saying in the most recent interview links, he's attempting to circumvent the judicial system entirely and manipulate the public to get the result he wants at the polls instead of in the courts.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. The impression I get from McConnell is that he wants the investigation shut down but he knows better than to be the sacrificial idiot that does it. So he'll talk a good game about how the investigation must be allowed to continue while also refusing to even consider any bill to protect the investigation.
McConnell is potentially the single most dangerous member of the Republican Party because of his decades of experience and mastery of the political game. He should never be underestimated, nor should it be assumed that anything he does is anything less than a chess move by a master player.
In this regard, he wants it done, but he knows it's suicide to be the idiot that did it. So he leaves the option open for the idiots in the party.
