Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Shots fired at an Indiana middle school, shooter is detained and one injury has been reported.

Geez, they waited a whole week? They’re slacking off from the usual timeline. :|
Yeah, and the reason that’s especially dumb is because of the inevitable fallout once a country mistakes (or “mistakes”) a tv or weather or GPS satellite for a military launchpad or whatnot. Or once the agreement on space being a neutral, non-militarized area for humanity, what happens when there’s an arms race in space, or countries start deciding that part of their strategic interest is denying other countries any kind of space presence.
If it happens, it’s going to be messy, nasty, and it’s going to really fuck with scientific achievements and our ability to move further out into space.
Or at least that’s how it looks to me.

Wonderful. </s>
"Yup. That tasted purple."No, the organization just needs to be disbanded and its upper leadership tried for human rights violations.
If you want something in charge of customs enforcement, build a new agency. There's nothing in ICE worth saving.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.@Pushover
I know, I hate myself for not feeling more upset at these sort of things, but I did get quite upset seeing one article on CNN where a state plans to give teachers a $100,000 benefit to their families if said teachers are killed in "the line of duty", Like, is is this what we've come down to now?
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.![]()

True, although it's one of our many pet media gripes that the press can't stop talking about the Royals and they could have at least kept the article about the shooting up for more than one evening. I'm the only person I know who bothers to even make casual remarks about this stuff anymore, and it looks like the Parkland kids campaign just vanished from our perspective because Media Cycle.

The wedding. Yes, I know the royal family brings more money into the UK than they cost and that technically makes them a symbiote, but it's one of my dad's phrases that I've always liked.
McConnell says he backs Mueller probe after classified briefing
Mc Connell told NPR that Mueller's investigation and a separate probe by the Justice Department's inspector general into the FBI's actions during the 2016 election will ultimately provide answers to a number of questions swirling around the presidential race.
"The two investigations going on that I think will give us the answers to the questions that you raise - the [inspector general] investigation in the Justice Department and the Mueller investigation," Mc Connell told NPR.
"I support both of them, and I don't really have anything to add to this subject based upon the Gang of Eight briefing that we had today, which was classified."
Whatever must have been in the briefing must have been really damning, as everyone who's actually read any of the unclassified Documents (so not Nunes), thinks that the investigation is completely warrented.

Yeah, well, I just hope that all the information in the briefing doesn't show up on Fox and Friends tomorrow after Nunes tells Trump and Trump starts a-tweetin'.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Bulletproof backpacks, Kevlar binders, maybe one of those rolling backpacks with a fold-out riot shield in it... yeah, this shit is getting ridiculous. We shouldn't have to factor in "chance of death" into a goddamn teacher's job.
Somwhat related: Two armed citizens kill a shooter who opened fire in an Oklahoma restaurant
I'm torn. Thankful as I am that the shooter was stopped, this will only give more material for the damn "good guy with a gun" crowd.

That seems our of nowhere and alarmist given that no Democratic administration could hope to top our current garbage fire
Unless you mean ICE and their I'll should worry, in which case carry on
