Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

“Plaintiff realized that the men had brought prostitutes, hard liquor, and what appeared to be cocaine onto the Yacht. Plaintiff was extremely disturbed by the presence of the prostitutes, especially because it appeared that some of the girls were too young to consent to sexual activity,” the lawsuit claimed.
M84, remember when we talked about how you were seriously suggesting Trump supporters were involved in child slavery and sex trafficking?
Well, the investigation here seems to be that....at the least, they have child sex slaves brought to parties. The title is annoying because cocaine and prostitutes is a weird thing to focus on in that case.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.@Dingo Walley: Also, we don't know whether Ryan will have the nerve to break the Hastert Rule even as a lame duck. Republican Speakers aren't willing to build issue-by-issue coalitions.
Re: human trafficking—considering all the separating of children from their families that ICE is doing at the border, and the 1400+ migrant children who HHS "can't find"
, I'd say this administration is already allowing it, if not actively participating. Or perhaps they've been put into sweatshops, sold for parts, put in mass graves..."or something."
God, I hate these fuckers.
The possibility of some of them ending in the hands of human traffickers due to police corruption, incompetence, and simple lack of care is not a statistically insignificant possibility.
So they don't need to be committing the Purge.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. All of it, still. Alzheimer's Disease doesn't turn you into Two-Face, you're still responsible for your own actions. Especially when the consequences affect hundreds of millions, if not billions of people.
Also, to give some context to the NYT article, this is one in five of the children displaced in foster care 'or whatever' by ICE in Arizona. One in five migrant kids, just whoopsie-daisy disappearing in the foster care system. That's grotesque.
Oh, and to compound this bullshit, ICE is now fighting to be legally allowed to destroy records relating to sexual assault, solitary confinement or deaths while in ICE custody.

Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.Last year, a book came out by James Patterson (of all people) describing the Epstein child sex scandle. It mentioned that Trump visited Epstein, and attended at least one of his parties. I always wondered if there was more to it than that.

I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.Oh for crying out loud. They're even admitting to trying a coverup now.
"Yup. That tasted purple."I guess they've gotten too lazy to just fudge reports. They just want to be allowed to outright shred them now. Next they'll argue that they don't need to make reports at all.
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if there really are a bunch of assholes in ICE engaging in sex trafficking of immigrants.

Disgusted, but not surprised

People be saying Trump and Bush Jr are some of our worst parents, but reading up on presidential history and the mid-19th century was a garbage fire. John Tyler, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan and Andrew Johnson are all runners for the worst presidents and they're at most eight years separate of each other.
Of these five, who do you think was the worst and the least bad, and why do you think so? For me, while I think Pierce was a bad president I honestly can't hate him because he had horrible personal luck working against him
