Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I thought that more of less all economists, even the Right Wingers intellectuals (yeah, they exist) agreed that Immigration is a net positive for the economy.
Immigration is sort of a interesting thing to me, my entire lifestyle is based on it.

Watch me destroying my countryIt's not a dog whistle. A dog whistle would be heard without making a sound audible to normal people.
This is just a whistle.
Text, not subtext.

John Oliver said blaming foreigners is the one thing both UK and American voters can always agree on.

Sinkhole appears on White House lawn
The sinkhole, confirmed by groundskeepers, is just outside the office of White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley. The sinkhole, which groundskeepers remarked was smaller than they thought it might be, was roped off with cones and caution tape.
But, according to reporters who have observed it, it appears to be growing.
On Twitter, the hole's appearance garnered jokes about the president's "drain the swamp" slogan and that the sinkhole was actually a portal to another dimension.

Others joked about how close the hole is to the press briefing room.

The White House covered up the hole later in the afternoon.
Another sign America is great again. :sarcasm:
TAX CUT CONTRIBUTES TO AUTO PLANT CLOSING
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Because of course he does. He doesn't want to admit that maybe voting for Trump was a bad idea.
Disgusted, but not surprisedTrump famously doesn't pay his workers.
He often refuses to over "shoddy work" waits until they sues, drags out court cases, and then settles for pennies on the dollar.
This is not the friend of the working man.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Well, more specifically, it was the lobbyists governing US foreign policy.
And they're a swell bunch.
The operation, it seems, was wildly successful. Broidy supplied the relationship with the president, and Nader allegedly had a connection with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia. Qatar, despite its support for the Muslim Brotherhood, has long been a critical U.S. ally in the Gulf region, providing a military base for U.S. Central Command. But Broidy, who dubbed Qatar “the snake,” helped convince Trump otherwise, using scripts prepared for him by Nader.[...]
[...]Naturally, as the A.P. notes, Broidy did not share Nader’s true opinion of Kushner with the president, which was—is?—that he’s a total moron. “You have to hear in private my Brother what Principals”—presumably M.B.S. and M.B.Z.—“think of ‘Clown prince’s’ efforts and his plan!” Nader, who was convicted in 2003 on 10 counts of sexually abusing minors, wrote to Broidy, who had been convicted in 2009 of bribing public officials. “Nobody would even waste cup of coffee on him if it wasn’t for who he is married to.”
The North Korean-US summit has been cancelled. Trump reports the country was just too hostile lately (likely refering to Bolton) for it to happen. The full letter is here
.
My favourite part is that Trump still finds a way to brag about America's "massive and powerful" nuclear capabilities, you know, because that's exactly what the koreans want to hear.
Life is unfair...That letter is a marvelous tragedy of diplomatic-speak attempting to wade through blatant trumpisms.
This whole ordeal is due to both parties being stubborn shits. But hey, they wanted all the credit, now they can take all blame.
"NK: We'll give up nukes when you remove your troops."
"US: no"
"NK: Then we're going to leave. With the nukes."
"US: k bye"
And we're back to square one.
The real question is what President Moon will be doing next.

Not even just the really rich jackasses. Plenty of America's farmers rely on migrant workers.
The UK is in a similar mess. Their farms also rely pretty heavily on EU migrant workers. With Brexit looming, they are more or less fucked.
