Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

x3 et al.: it's a primary, it's not going to be as straightforward as "just check the box for X party". At least that's how I see it. @Parable specifically, that's basically what I'm trying to do.

Hopefully I'll feel confident to change my avatar off this scumbag soon. Apologies to any scumbags I insulted.LGBT+ rights (as a party policy) are relatively new. David Cameron was the first Conservative prime minister to push those.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.![]()
The implication that the UK Conservative party would be considered moderate at best in the US still stands. Their mainline positions are far softer than the mainline positions held by the GOP.
The whole reason behind bringing them up was to illustrate the difference between conservative and Conservative, specifically in relation to US politics.
They should have sent a poet.President Obama has endorsed Senator Feinstein for her senate re-election bid.
Feinstein enjoys a very wide poll gap against all her competition, Nazi or otherwise.
Also, might be worth nothing that Californians began receiving their election information recently, and the Nazi didn't even have his name among the candidates.
Saying that all mainstream European right-wing parties are equal or to the left of the Democrats just seems more like conventional wisdom now, rather than something people actually provide evidence for. It's just something that's been said over and over that's it's accepted as fact.

That was pretty much the point I was making. Big C Conservative refers to a Conservative party, and Conservative parties around the world vary in how little c conservative they are. Little c conservatism is a distinct concept.
I think the mainstream European right is probably similar to our conservative Democrats. Of course, the European far right has had an unprecedented resurgence and a lot of Eastern European countries are super right wing now, so that's more of an "on the balance" statement.

Watch me destroying my country@Beary Scary: Well, there's a few issues with that. In particular, you need to define Nazism and Fascism, which is actually very difficult. Godwin's Law is a bitch.

I just take a sticky note with me telling me what and who I decided to vote for.
