Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

For those interested, here's Mueller's service records
as a Marine in Vietnam, 1968-70.
I almost don't even care what these people have to say any more. "X Republican politician said a horrific thing" is a story run multiple times a day, at this point it barely even matters what horrific thing they said. There's no point in even trying to issue rebuttals, this stuff is so fractally wrong it's pointless to engage with. We just need to make sure it's written down somewhere so we can throw it in their faces later and move on.

Typically the problem people have is that Obama massively expanded the drone program and the use of targeted killings. He was also the first president ever to preside over a war during all eight years in office, and authorized military action in seven different countries.
I don't necessarily disagree with any of what he did, but many people see that as at odds with receiving a peace prize.

They should have sent a poet.
Agreed - Obama genuinely didn't deserve it, especially at that point in his tenure, and he kind of admitted as much during his speech. But at the same time, I've never heard of someone outright declining to accept a Nobel Peace Prize.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Giving a Nobel Peace Prize to a sitting politician is purely a propaganda victory, which is why it's essential that Trump never receive one. If he's memorialized in any way, it should be only in burning effigy.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."So, about the so-called blue wave
. . .
With Trump's approval going up, is that still a possibility? Or is four more years of Trump the price we have to pay for peace in Korea?

How likely is Trump to face some kind of opposition within the Republicans in 2020? He's already filed to run again.
On that note, both his campaign slogans - "Make America Great Again" and "Keep America Great" are incredibly vague and pretty vapid. They don't really say anything on their own.

I mean that's propaganda, for good or for bad. Obama had "Change" as his slogan. That's also really vague.
phrases like that can imply exactly what you want it to be, without having to specify. So you make it what you want it to be.
Read my stories! Also, I noticed the source you linked was an op-ed as opposed to an actual article. It's a step up from using Infowars as a source, I guess.
Disgusted, but not surprised

He uses the hashtag #Send In A Marine,
This is what I say to that.
