Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Or the US doesn't stop employing complex strategy just because the most visible head of the executive is a moron, the conspiracy theory of "action x must be a distraction!" is rather annoying.

Net neutrality really isn't that big of a national issue to need a distraction and I'm sure moves in Syria aren't decided on that basis.
James Comey’s Memos are Classified, I did not Declassify them. They belong to our Government! Therefore, he broke the law! Additionally, he totally made up many of the things he said I said, and he is already a proven liar and leaker. Where are Memos on Clinton, Lynch & others?
I don't really know what he's referring to here, honestly.
You so totally do.

“Attack fleet” is a little bit of a misleading term.
While it’s true that forces are arriving in the area, the Truman CSG (Carrier Strike Group) was always bound for the Med. It’s not like a new development or anything. It’s going to be supporting air ops across the region from the Med and the Arabian Sea, like the Bush CSG did before it. We try to keep a CSG in the region as often as we can, for obvious reasons.

Anywhere from a week to a year, according to this: https://www.inverse.com/article/43968-net-neutrality-wont-disappear-yet
. And they can, but you can bet the IS Ps will be fighting tooth and nail to keep it gone, and if I'm correct Pai has already made it harder for the FCC to restore it.
It should absolutely be possible to bring it back once the Democratic Party properly takes control, though considering the repeal I think just bringing back as it was isn't nearly good enough. I think it should be partially or entirely nationalized, it's just too much of a natural monopoly to remain purely in private hands.

That logic can be used against literally any government program or action, notice how they've tried to sabotage the ACA and it's doing fine
. Thus the idea that fully nationalized ISP's would inevitably lead to successful Republican sabotage simply isn't true.
Personally while I can tolerate partial nationalization I would prefer full, in my view public utilities like ISP's should not be in private hands at-all.

Exactly my point, the reason that Net Neutrality was so quickly killed off was because it was merely something under the auspice of the FCC when a proper government program for managing the nationalized ISP's should be hard enough to kill as the ACA.
I disagree, it wouldn't just be NN. We're talking about free high speed internet
that is universally available to everyone.
That is exactly the sort of thing that offers both major economic benefit to society and clear personal benefit to voters. If implemented properly (and I see no reason to assume that it cannot be) this is exactly the sort of program that people could come to like, and thus would be extremely hard for the Republicans to sabotage.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. From what I can tell by reading his Twitter feed, the response is almost entirely negative.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
