Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

the Hamilton 64 Disinformation Dashboard
is a good way to get a general idea of what they are tweeting about.
Everything they do makes more sense, when you realize that they are acting at a disadvantage. They are not the mighty Soviet Union, and have an objectively shrinking economy. The only way for them to gain a measure of respect back and stay relevant on a World Stage, is through relative power, which can be gained by destabilizing everyone else.
Here's some more about it.

Just so it's not lost in the shuffle:
"Former first lady Barbara Bush dead at 92: family" - http://www.reuters.com/article/us-people-barbarabush/former-first-lady-barbara-bush-dead-at-92-family-idUSKBN1HO3HG
The only way it will stop is for it to stop being cost effective, that means either them getting low returns (so very little chaos), or the cost due to retaliation outweighing the benefits.
That or they stop because then end up in a Lenin situation, where their agent of chaos ends up bringing about an agent of their destruction.

A shame.
Quite, all we can really do is fight against their useful idiots and take action to hurt Russia (which isn't hard, sanctions targeting what's left of their economy and the Oligarchs should do the trick). Which really should be enough.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangNo problem.
It's just that I remember being confused when Wikileaks and Snowden started allying with Russia. I thought they were pro-free speech and anti-government spying, so turning to Putin for help seemed bizarre. He does not share those values.
I didn't know Assange was such a creep or the time, and Snowden's apparently a libertarian of some sort.

X5 It’s not just about fighting against the useful idiots, it’s about being adaptable enough in progressing our society that there aren’t as many agents of chaos out there.
If the US was progressive enough on race relations that BLM was listened to and the concerns addressed properly, then Russian wouldn’t be able to spread chaos by backing BLM.
If the Republican Party hadn’t descended itself into neo-fascism well before Trump than the Russians would have had no Trump to back in the 2016 Republican primary.
If Bush hadn’t had so many questionable acts committed during the war on terror there would be no wikileaks for the Russian to back.
They can’t cause chaos by backing bad options if we progress as a society enough that all our major options are good ones.

Forgot to put trump's tweets this morning. They are kind of hilarious
[[quoteblock]] Today’s Court decision means that Congress must close loopholes that block the removal of dangerous criminal aliens, including aggravated felons. This is a public safety crisis that can only be fixed by........Congress – House and Senate must quickly pass a legislative fix to ensure violent criminal aliens can be removed from our society. Keep America Safe!
He's in Mar-A-Lago this week, so expect even more from his than usual.

When it comes to wikileaks and Snowden, on some level their both also monsters of our own making, Manning wouldn’t have leaked all the shit she did if the US military had properly helped her and provided proper medical support both physically and mentally. Likwise Snowden wouldn’t have been co-opted by Russia is there hasn’t been a giant secret NSA program for him to leak, or possibly even if he’d had reasonable grounds to thi k he’d get a fair trial in the US.
Though Assange was never about transparency, he almost certainly got compromised early by the Russians, Snowden, honestly he was running out of options so ran where he knew he’d be safe even if it meant throwing his morals to the wind.
Russian bots generate traffic and noise about stories that connect with BLM, Reddit recently revealed the posting habits of the Russian bits they caught, they were actully more active on subs about corrupt cops than on the Trump one.
They’re not helping, not realy, they’re trying to use BLM, because if black people trust cops else it undermines the rule of law, if cops see black people as moaning about non-problems it undermines trust in the public, the idea is to cause a feedback loop where the US gets less stable.

That preference is because hey find Trump a useful agent of chaos, not because they agree with his goals.
Agin I go back to Lenin, the Germans didn’t let him though because they believed in a Communsit revolution, they let him though because they knew he’d make a giant mess within Russia and get Russia off their backs.
Putin didn’t give two shits about what little ideology Trump does believe in, he cares about the mess that Trump will make.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranAs much as I disagree with her son and husband, Barbara Bush did a lot of good work as First Lady and after her husband's term. It was low key, but adult literacy was her cause of choice, and that's pretty huge.

Considering that they've be married for about 70 years, yeah that's hard to fathom. And he has health issues of his own as well, and losing a spouse doesn't help on that front.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.

Watch the hash tags they are pushing, and take information coming out of them with a grain of salt until they fall back off the pushed agenda list.
