Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I posted stuff about the Starbucks thing over in the Race thread when it happened. Is the police chief still claiming the officers did nothing wrong by escorting two people out for being black in a yuppie store?
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswLast I heard, the police chief maintained that the officers responded properly to a call of trespassing. I don't have any current details. The public outrage seems to be most strongly directed at the (former) manager of that Starbucks, not the cops.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Have you guys noticed this? Recently, I've been seeing an uptick in those stories where people make up scenarios. You know the ones- my 8 year old pointed at the tv when trump was on and said "I hate that man." or something about standing up to a vaguely described white man, and "everyone on the train clapped." There's tons of them going around right now. I don't know if it's just me or what.

Yeah, Trump racism come less as ideology and more as impulse he follow to time to time, I mean he pretty much goes against is more ardent fanbase when shit hit the fan.
I will said he is sympathic to white supremacy because they are nice to him and trump cant bring himself to do anything.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I think Fyodor just learned that r/thathappened exists.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Obviously fake internet stories have been around for years, nor are they exclusive to the Left

Oh God! Natural light!I will said he is sympathic to white supremacy because they are nice to him and trump cant bring himself to do anything.
That was actually done, the Russians were informed that the strikes would be happening via traditional channels shortly before they happened.
Thing is that was done the normal way, either via the state department or the Do D, it was not done via twitter days in advance.
I suspect that that’s due to a change in your information gathering habits (or the habits of your sources) more than any actual uptick in people making shit up. Obviously shit is more focused on Trump now as he’s president, but the liars have always lied.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranPart of the fun is that when the people in charge of major media outlets display a casual or dismissive attitude towards what constitutes facts (*cough* Fox News), it inspires others to do the same, either out of genuine ignorance or intentional malice. Then we get a President who does the same exact thing and it becomes the heyday for the fake news purveyor. Add Russian troll farms and it's a wonder any of us know what day it is, never mind what's really going on in the halls of power.
All of this benefits people with disruptive, counterfactual agendas.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Supreme Court has ruled that Immigrants can not be deported for any random 'Crime of Violence', like Burglary
. It was a 5-4 Split, with Justice Neil Gorsuch siding with the Liberal Justices.
So on the one hand, Immigrants can be held indefinitely for any crime they commit, but on the other hand, they can't be deported for any crime they commit. We really do need to reform Immigration entirely in this country, but at least they won't be kicked out of the country for Jaywalking now.

He has an ideology. It's white supremacism.
