Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yeah and the RNC will respond in kind, so not only is he not waiting DNC money he’s pulling RNC money from other raises, the RNC can’t focus on taking Florida if they’re having to play defence in Texas.
The Democrats became more inclusive and the Republicans became more raicst, so the entire south switched from blue to red.
The south never forgave LBJ for the voting rights act and Nixon pushed the southern strategy, it took time for the two shifts to fully come into effect but they’ve solidified over recent years.

X4 West Virginia is actully one of the safer at serious risk seats, most anylists put four Dems seats at toss up, North Dakota, Indiana, Missouri and either West Virginia of Florida, with West Virginia and Florida looking to be on the safer end of the toss up scale.
Currently I’m expecting us to see a shift somewhere between -2 and +2 for the Dems, they’re likely to lose one of North Dakota, Indiana, Missouri, but have real pick up chances in Nevada, Arizona and Tennessee.

The Washington Post is far more fiction than fact. Story after story is made up garbage - more like a poorly written novel than good reporting. Always quoting sources (not names), many of which don’t exist. Story on John Kelly isn’t true, just another hit job!
President Xi and I will always be friends, no matter what happens with our dispute on trade. China will take down its Trade Barriers because it is the right thing to do. Taxes will become Reciprocal & a deal will be made on Intellectual Property. Great future for both countries!
Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria. Area of atrocity is in lockdown and encircled by Syrian Army, making it completely inaccessible to outside world. President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad. Big price.......to pay. Open area immediately for medical help and verification. Another humanitarian disaster for no reason whatsoever. SICK!
And the reason why he cares about Syrian War Crimes all of a sudden?

A Democratic House, assuming they vote as a bloc (and very few Democrats have much to gain by voting with Trump) can put a stop to the worst legislative excesses of the GOP. They also gain control of powerful investigative bodies. That said, a House victory is not guaranteed though it is likely.
Getting the Senate (unlikely, but possible) would be even better, because it would mean that the US isn't totally fucked if a liberal Supreme Court Justice dies/Kennedy resigns, and Trump's worst Cabinet picks could be blocked.
Still, until the GOP is kicked out of the White House, administrative and foreign policy damage is still going to occur.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
I hate that this is necessary.
the Tea Party and Faux News pushed us into this seesaw of power, where instead of relying on a strong middle ground in both parties to keep the crazies where they belong, and keep a more stable government, the Republicans have moved so far to the Right that there is no middle ground. So it's just this wild See-Saw of completely switching priorities and directions when a new party is in power.
And what about 2020 House elections? We need to remember those as well.

Black political views are not a monolith.
Just something to keep in mind, because people tend to equate "Vote Democrat" with "All Blacks think the same" and it's annoying.
...That kind of reminds me of that one Key and Peele sketch.

Oh God! Natural light!Remember how I brought up people starting to equate displays of patriotism with Trumpism
? Well, I imagine it will only get worse from here on out, folks.
Trump's Military Parade Is Set For Veterans Day
The document addressed to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff provides "initial guidance," including assurances that the display will not include tanks, to minimize damage to the city streets. The D.C. City Council had already tweeted its objections ("Tanks but No Tanks").
The memo does not estimate the cost, but as NPR has reported, estimates have suggested it would be between $3 million and $50 million. Tamara Keith and Tom Bowman reported that holding it on Veterans Day, which also commemorates the end of World War I, could reduce complaints:
The memo says the parade will begin at the White House and proceed to the U.S. Capitol, with a "heavy air component at the end." It notes that Trump will be surrounded by military heroes in the reviewing area at the Capitol. [1]
Is there any way at all we could salvage this, or is this just a lost cause.

I think the inherent numbers Texas make his victory a long shot. He's making it competitive, but unless Cruz gets hit with a Moore level scandal, or the economy takes a rapid dive, America's Most Hated Senator (as voted by everyone who has ever worked with him) will probably be here to stay.
