Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Perfect Metaphor for Trump himself.
He's a cheapskate when it comes to stuff that actually matters. All he cares about is the image. He'll blow money on gilding and marketing, but won't spend a penny on safety, quality control, paying contractors, etc. if he can avoid it.
It was bad enough when he was just a guy running hotels and resorts. But now he's running the most powerful nation on Earth.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI think a lot of this can be chalked up to his Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
He's desperate to keep up the act, and even more importantly, avoid shame, and that is quite literally all he cares about. He has no impulse control or capability to learn from his mistakes. All he can do is desperately try to keep up appearances to try to collect adoration. He will throw everything and everybody to the curb to do so.

They're not.
The upper floors don't have sprinklers. Apparently they were built before that became a requirement, so it's technically not a code violation.
Hence why he blows money on wasteful and ill-planned ventures like Trump steaks and building multiple casinos in the same area. It's all about trying to spread his name and image. Make him look like a successful business mogul and visionary.
It's been brought up that if he had invested his money more wisely in less grandiose and public ways, he'd have way more money. But someone like Trump lacks both the business sense and the humility needed to do that. It's not just about making money. It's about making money and looking "good" doing it.

Disgusted, but not surprisedWhat has this man done?
Honestly not sure what's more depressing, the fact that someone would react like that to seeing a display of a Veteran's memorial flag, or that I can completely understand why.

- Crass
- Bigoted
- Obsessed with wealth
- Dismissive of other cultures
- Convinced of his own superiority, yet ignorant of almost everything he talks about
- Attempts to ape the trappings of refinement, ends up with a gaudy mess
... dear God.
♭What.
Well, well. What a way to generalize.
Are you not aware that a good damn half of the country is against Trump? Even when he began to run for POTUS there was a massive outcry, protests. Did you not read this thread, even see that all the American posters are upset and angry at their country being driven into the ground within a matter of months? Every day there are new petitions, fresh opposition from the left-wing and sane conservatives, Americans going about their daily business wincing at Trump's freshest blunder. What, did they all blindly elect him? Did the Democrat party suddenly cease to exist? His approval rating drops by the day, Democrats swing more and more states blue. The people aren't mindless zombies or marching thoughtlessly to the beat of a drum. They're aware that he's wrong and they openly oppose him.
I'm not American. But I've always liked them. All the ones I've interacted with? Kindest people I've ever met, lovely change from the people back home. They may not know much about other cultures, but they're still willing to listen no matter what. That stereotype? Only an irritating amount of Americans are like that, but they tend to stay out of public view and confine themselves to the internet. It's just that right now, they're feeling confident enough to come out in public and spout garbage.
As for the Anti-American nutjobs, it's not like their country's hands are clean, either. But no, to them, the US is soooooo unsophisticated and unlike them. My beef is that it's not wrong to oppose US policies, but to extend the anger and hatred to Americans themselves? Pathetic, really. They brag about Americans being uber-patriotic and nationalism, while beating their meats about how much more awesome their countries are.
But if they're all just blind idiots to you then so be it. There's no point in talking to you anymore. If you didn't read the thread, if you didn't follow the news, then leave this forum for a while. Safest way to not get thumped again.
Update: Well, you edited your post. Don't do this crap again, understand?
