Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

That's kinda inappropriate, don't you think?
Chalk it up to Conditioned to Accept Horror and/or Gallows Humor. At this point, it won't be long until the NRA suggests that security details be at every public and private building with more than 10 people inside carrying AR-15s.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"![]()
And what were to happen if they were to take an AK or FS 2000 instead of a AR-15? Would they shoot them due to using a foreign rifle?

x5 Well, what else makes this different from all the other active shooter events (God I hate that these are so commonplace that there's a clinical term like that to describe them) that we've had this year alone?
(well, ok, there's the fact that it's happening AT YouTube instead of just being picked up by them)
Someone did tell me life was going to be this way.https://mobile.twitter.com/NBCNews/status/981278771381768193
Local news is reporting that the shooter was female and “is down”.

The Orange House has announced a list of 1,300 Chinese goods/industries that could be tagged with tariffs.

I think that, at the very least, an American-Chinese trade war is imminent.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.![]()
it's "the tippy-top house, building or whatever."
In the completely unsuprising news, "YouTube" is starting to trend among Russian Bots.
The only variable is how far it will get.

As an update, we have 3 wounded (one critically), and the police believe that the shooter died by her own hand.
https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/03/us/youtube-hq-shooting/index.html
Nothing about motivation, etc yet, but I'm sure the agitators and conspiracy theorists are hard at work.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. Not to interrupt the shooting discussion (ugh, can't believe this is a regular thing now) but more on the Sinclair controversy.
Sinclair responds to criticism of media-bashing promos.
Here's the thing, Sinclair. Putting aside the fact that you forced affiliates to read this message, which in itself is troublesome, things don't exist in a vacuum. Taken at face value, yes, a message about warning about disinformation is a good thing. But it's plainly obvious, in this climate of Trump's unrelenting attack on any media that is critical of him as "fake news", combined with Sinclair's penchant for far right editorials (see the Terrorism Alert Desk for just ONE example), that you're clearly using your power to push a pro-Trump viewpoint. This is de facto propaganda.
It gets worse: Executive chairman of Sinclair claims entire print media has no credibility.
Great, so this far right propaganda corporation is being influenced by a guy who hates actual news. Nothing to be alarmed about here. Also, unrelated but not exactly comforting: The guy seems like a total asshole, judging by the way he way he talks to, or refuses an interview with, reporters.

I’m seeing claims that the shooter’s motive may have been personal not political, a grudge against an ex that works there.
Nothing confirmed though.
Edit: Yeah BBC are confirming that one of the wounded is said to be the shooter’s boyfriend, so this looks to be a domestic violence incident in a workplace setting.
