Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

The way Daniels described it, her consent was less like "Yes" and more like "Yes......?"
It's the kind of distinction over which any other man today would be raked over the coals, even in retrospect, because the hesitation matters.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."I'd like to see him impeached, but him being the first president since HW Bush to lose a reelection would be pretty sweet too.
If nothing else than it being less likely to cause riots and gives me much more of a chance to throw back "He lost, get over it".
Plus leave Bernie the chance to act out that steel chair meme by clocking him at 11:59AM and being pardoned by the new president at exactly Noon.

The problem being of course, that Bobby Three-Sticks is already several steps ahead of him. (The fact that he actually had a list of topics he wanted to ask Trump about says as much, because with someone as big as him, prosecutors do not like to ask questions they don't already know the answer too.).

If you want to blog about getting yourself a highly dangerous death machine, go nuts. Don't know how old your purported son is, but I, for one, would have felt deeply uncomfortable having the world know how long it might have taken me to become OK at plinking when I was a teen to young adult.
But, I suspect this and the Gun threads know all about how buying a gun works in various parts of the US, thanks. It's been discussed, enough.

Alright, fair enough. Although your definition of a simple revolver as "a highly dangerous death machine" is the kind of talk that makes me think there's misinformation going around in the first place. It's fine.
There are a lot of constants, though, such as the federally required background check and not purchasing handguns until you're 21.

Many states only strictly require federal background checks for NFA items, and the handgun age limit doesnt cover private sales, and can be waived completely in some places. When it comes to US gun laws there are surprisingly few constants.
Also, what do you think that revolver is meant to do? You can be pro-gun and still think guns are incredibly dangerous, because they are. I’d hope you’d teach your son that as well so he handles his weapon with care.

They should have sent a poet.
True. Perhaps I should have gone for "freely available arsenic that used to be in pharmacies and was marketed as 'rat poison'".
But, I would argue that Grenfell was pretty much a deadly death trap by incremental design. A lot of deliberate decisions went into cutting those corners. Much as with the Flint water supply.
They knew people were likely to die.
It might not be a bad idea to see if there any shooting/Gun safety classes in your area, like at the local shooting range or something, especially if you've never done it before, or haven't in a while.
Nothing wrong with having it as a hobby, as long as you aren't stupid about it. (I like Archery)

It's a case of considering the lives and well-being of a particular group of citizens as less important than the political advantage you gain by appearing to save money.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Liberals haven't "done" anything. Conservatives make us look craftier than we actually are. Our own roles in ending gun violence have been characterized by inaction. The next generation is who is driving this, buttressing rhetoric with praxis.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."

Yes, that's the current thought.
