Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Maher is not only anti-vaccine but has, at various points, been an all-out germ theory denier. Throw in his raging hypocrisy on any number of issues (I simply will not have the world's proudest stoner lecture me on what I eat or health in general) and there's not a lot of point in giving him the time of day.
Speaking of dumb voices on the left, this opinion piece
provides a handy summation of all the "news" sources on the ostensible left that we might want to avoid. Most of are already familiar with a lot of it, I expect, but I thought it might be convenient to have links to a lot of it in one place.
With the (Eric) Trump "Democrats aren't people
", it's definitely a case of "Hello pot, I'm kettle."
“You see the Democratic Party, they’re imploding. They’re imploding. They became obstructionists because they have no message of their own.”
So, Politico argues we shouldn't put too much faith in Mueller's probe into Trump and Russia given the disappointing results of his previous probe into the NFL and domestic violence
.
Related: I love the argument that "The Democrats don't see the irony in that they're being obstructionist when they criticized the Republicans for doing it during Obama's term!" Difference is, the Republicans back then were obstructing primarily because they had a petty grudge against Obama, while Democrats are obstructing now because the current GOP platform is, frankly, objectively dangerous.

Your reading comprehension skills are not up to snuff or an algorithm somewhere deems you a perfect target for tailored fake news disinformation - the election proper is not until the 20th.
Not seeing anything about an Ossof victory.
When's the election, again?

Oh God! Natural light! She is absolutely right on that first part: this IS an example of the fundamental difference between a liberal and a conservative. I love that she is against livable wages but wants to see job growth. This marks it as a quality v. quantity argument.
Democrats want quality of jobs. The Democratic economic philosophy is that working earns you enough money to live if you can find a job. If you can't, you should be buffered by welfare programs that allow you to stay on your feet.
Republicans want quantity of jobs. The Republican economic philosophy is that everyone should be working, regardless of whether or not you're actually paid to do so. They believe that the country should thrive on a fully employed population of people slowly drowning in poverty, working their fingers to the bone for the right to be homeless on really nice streets.
Democrats want welfare, Republicans want slaves.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Regarding Brownback, those tax increases got through a Republican-held Legislature AND had to override a veto to do it
. Yeah, it was that bad.
And since I got blessed by a page-topper, holy shit, Comey has confirmed the rumored memo
along with Trump having asked him about his "loyalty".

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Guys, Comey has already told the Senate that Trump both asked for his loyalty and to back off on Flynn.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Trump attacking his own base again, this time going after their food stamps: http://www.cnbc.com/2017/06/07/trump-wants-to-start-charging-stores-to-accept-food-stamps.html
CNN has a copy of Comey's prepared testimony for tomorrow
Edit: Having read it, nothing we don't already know (it focuses on Comey's interactions with Trump over loyalty and ending the investigation)). If anything new comes out it will be in the questioning.

I was not aware he was against vaccinations, and it seems out of character for him. But if so, yeah, that's an attitude that can DIAF.
