Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

See, that is an anti-Hillary vote. A vote for "F*ck Hillary, but seriously, f*ck Trump too."
A vote for Donald Trump is not an anti-Hillary vote, because there were other options besides having to vote for one or the other. A vote for Donald Trump is a vote that says, "F*ck Hillary, but also let's get this Trump guy into office, because I like the cut of his jib."
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I don't think you're getting it.
Anti-Hillary means "I dislike/hate Hillary and want her to lose therefore I will vote for the person most likely to beat her" not "I hate Trump and Hillary but fuck it I'll go for Trump".

Basically that. I don't think most of us agree with that sentiment, but voting for Trump doesn't necessarily mean that you want his wall or Muslim ban.
I talked to a classmate who voted for him, with her logic being that hopefully the people around him would reign him in, while Hilary was already a known terrible for her. I vehemently disagree with that position, but I at least acknowledge that "go bigotry!" was not what she was trying to go for.
This also a good question.

Oh, by the way, Tobias, you're mistaken about most of Trump's base being people who'll stay with him no matter what
. The proportion of people who strongly approve of him has been shrinking quite a bit. His base wanted results, and they've gotten four months of nothing.
Welp. We're officially crossing another line.
There are already political leaders in America calling for genocide aka mass killings of suspected radicalized Muslims:
“Not one penny of American treasure should be granted to any nation who harbors these heathen animals. Not a single radicalized Islamic suspect should be granted any measure of quarter,” he wrote. “Hunt them, identify them, and kill them. Kill them all. For the sake of all that is good and righteous. Kill them all.”
Notably, Higgins advocated for the killing of anyone even suspected of having links to terrorism, and gave no definition of how that should be determined. He described the fight as a “war” between Christendom and “Islamic horror,” echoing a rallying cry of the far-right.
So Comey is scheduled to testify publically in front of the senate this Thursday. Anyone planning to go watch?

I won't due to with schedule but I'm already seeing headiness about Republicans trying to tank his credibility ahead of time.
Conservatives torch Comey’s credibility ahead of Senate hearing

I don't know, considering how happy cops in the US are when they get to fill people with lead, I'm pretty sure if the House declared open season on 'suspected terrorists' they'd happily go ask the Army if they could buy a Browning for all those shiny surplus MRAPS they have.
They've been winding up to this for a while. I'm expecting more people to agree or at least protect the Representative.

Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.![]()
As someone else said, I'll worry about that when it's more than just one Representative. And knowing how these things go, the guy is likely going to try and back away and pretend like it never happened. Which is infuriating but still indicative that where still a far ways off from what you're implying.

Trump is not helping his case with his tweets about his Muslim Ban. I'm pretty sure these can be used against him in court.

Hillary again? The election is over. The best thing to do is take some of the lessons we have learned from this election, and apply it to special elections and later the house elections in 2018. We can deal with the Next presidential election comes.
