Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

If the GOP can push Obamacare repeal to 2020, I feel like they would have given themselves a lifeline of sorts. Though it would probably just be a Cliffhanger Cop Out when they still can't pass Republicare. If that happens, color me unsurprised.
On one hand, people would be without the ACA, which would be bad enough. But on the other, they wouldn't have to deal with Republicare until 2020 or so, which seems to get worse with each attempt.
My point is: How do you screw up health care so badly that having no health care is preferable?
But will it matter by then? As it has been said before, if people lose their insurance now, they will know who took it from them.

Why would people lack health care if the ACA repeal is held off? Wouldn't today just been the ACA keeps going or am I missing something?

Seriously though I think it would still be in place, although Trump is doing everything possible to undermine it working.

The problem with holding ACA's repeal until 2018, is that that will piss off their base. They voted for these boso's (who are becoming less and less Pro-Trump, which makes them enemies to the base anyways) to get rid of Obamacare, and now they're sitting on their thumbs, saying "We'll try again when Trump gets a 2nd Term". Do you think these people will be voting for the same people who say one thing and do another? Unless their name is Donald J. Trump, the answer is most likely no.
The Republicans in Congress might get Primaried out for more Radical, Authoritarian, Pro-Trump Republicans who will get rid of the ACA (consequences be damned). Fortunately, that's only 30% of the Population in most states. 60%+ will not vote for radical Republicans, especially when for 2-4 years they'll seen just how terrible Trump and (even worse) Congressional Republicans are/have been.
If the Republicans sit on ACA's repeal until 2020, I think the Democrat Bloodbath (and the Republican v Republican Bloodbath before it) will be even greater...
@Beary Scary: Even with all the faults of the AHCA, I can't see how having no healthcare plan in place could possibly be better for anyone.

Life is unfair...Their base didn't know what Obamacare was when they voted. Like, that's legitimately a thing. A lot of Republican voters were alarmed to discover that this thing they spent eight years hyping up the repeal of was the Affordable Care Act.
They want Obamacare repealed as soon as possible because f*ck Obama and his dirty liberal welfare programs, but they also want the Affordable Care Act to be enshrined in law forever because of how much it's affected them, personally. Do not underestimate the ignorance of GOP voters.
If they push off the repeal until 2020, then their voterbase gets another four years in which they can blissfully hate Obamacare and convince themselves that the Republicans are totally going to scorch it and replace it with an awesome healthcare bill that's great and will solve all their problems..
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Is anyone else worried that the Russian connection doesn't go to Trump directly? Like if whatever the testimony will reveal will only show that some Republicans in Trump's cabinet were compromised? I know trump's admin is trying to cover up something but it could be out of fear for their jobs not for fear of Trump personally getting caught. I'm worried about the damage the Dumpster has already done, but I'm also worried that he'll be the next President Reagan in the right winger's eyes. A horrible trash fire of a human being but who hurt minorities enough that they love him.

So, the goddamn FBI was acting on Russian intel that they knew was false. What the fuck is going on here?
