Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

How badly would he have to hurt the guy to make it felony assault, I wonder?
I'll say this for the current administration: they are making it very hard to be a Republican in many parts of the country.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I looked up this Gianforte guy's positions on Wikipedia. He had the usual regressive positions that some in the GOP hold (hates marijuana, raising the minimum wage, same sex marriage, etc.), but he also thinks people shouldn't be allowed to retire. You kidding me?!

Greater Manchester Police (the lens investigating the Manchester bombing) have confirmed that they will no longer share information with the US, the Mayor of Manchester has also confirmed this and the PM will be speaking to Trump about the leaks.
Hopefully other countries learn from this and freeze the US out of terror investigations before critical information is leaker and not after.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThe identity of the attacker was leaked, while the police were actively trying to detain other members of what they believed to be his network. So the US gave advance warning to a terrorist network and thus enabled members of said network to try and flee.
Also while Trump may not have leaker it personally the leak is believed to have come from political appointees and not standard member of law enforcement p/intelegence agencies.

Will never have had Freedom ideology to begin with, but just pretend that it does, with crayon scribbles over the government UI.
So how many times does the administration have to help terrorists before it counts as treason?

Apparently 2/3rds of the vote was already in at that point, due to mail-in ballots. And it turns out that there's no precedent for what happens if someone gets arrested for assault immediately after being elected. Does the job go to the next runner up? Does the election have to be held again?
